Programas...
Kagi is a great product and I’m happy to be a customer. If you are not familiar, it’s first-and-foremost a paid web search service, though they have expanded to offer a few other useful things. I bought a year of Kagi’s ultimate plan back in February after kicking the tires with a trial of search. Having a trial...
Idaho brushed at his eyes. Tleilaxu eyes were not immune to tears. ? he knows he lost her forever and need to act normal so she won't kill him, so sad.
Mexico was knocked out of the World Cup by England. You have no idea how much hope I had for this squad, the quality and resiliance Mexico had shown. Unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of the locality and it only took a couple of mistakes for England to put us in a very bad situation, two goals in just a...
The vibeThis was a quieter week overall. Not a whole lot of big updates, and I did not get as much time as I wanted to work on my iPhone or macOS app projects. There was still some World Cup watching, a little Linux tinkering, a family movie night, and time with friends, so it was not a bad week. Just one of those...
Puedes no responder a alguna si no quieres o no sabes.
I like Colbert, even though I quit watching him around oh, 2012? Just lost the habit of tuning in the Report every night, then with what all happened in 2016 and beyond I just lost interest in pretty much anything news-shaped. Anyway, he apparently has a Questionert now, and since Sunbird answered it I will...
I was at a local trialhead and under the trail map kiosk I spotted a lime green anodized metal cube. I figured it was another vaping device so I picked it up with the intention of either extracting a nice rechargeable battery, or throwing it in the trash. But it wasn't a vape thing. On the side it said Goal Zero and...
Find out where you sit on the AI compass, which is a little similar to the vote compass. There are thirty AI classifications including sceptic, Luddite, conscientious objector, doomsday prepper, founder, and prophet. Each has a patron saint. Mine is Amanda Askell, though I’m not entirely sure I agree with my...
Spent the weekend visiting family on the East Kent Coast and decided we would pop over to St Margarets Bay as we had not been for some time. As a kid I was over here often and my dad used to run the GPO Repeater Station on the top of the hill - great views over the channel from there and there are secret tunnels...
I have to admit that when a reader wrote to me and said… Every point release of BBEdit delights me. I live in BBEdit. It’s one of the few packages for which I read through the release notes every time (they often have spots of hilarity). …I got a bit concerned. One thing that I hate more than wasted release notes...

Last week, Thoughtworks ran a second Future of Software Development Retreat, this time in Europe. As with the previous event, I’ll be sharing some fragmentary thoughts on this. There were five parallel streams, so I could, at best, only attend ⅕ of sessions. This isn’t an event that forms conclusions, rather one...
For the present entry I have picked this wonderful rendition of a traditional song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_TywytZvdw. It is nominally about fishers at sea and thus pertinent to everyday life in many parts of Greece. The livelihood of plenty of locals is connected to the sea in some capacity, while others...

The ninth episode of Wonders of Web Weaving is out:In Episode 9, I chat with Rachel, the author of kwon.nyc and curator of "The internet used to be* fun *(It still is, but it used to be, too)". We talk about, among other things, metaphors for the web, creative mediums on the web, physical creative spaces, and more.I...
July 2026. Sheffield. As you’ll know by now, I care little about beer, but much about beer quality in pubs. Perhaps only someone who’s had an NBSS 5 Doom Bar and an NBSS 2 Harvey’s Sussex will understand the distinction. In truth, I reckon cask quality has got a little worse over the last year or two, having...

For over two weeks, I found that the front application would, every hour or so, lose focus to… something. No obvious culprit made itself known, so I asked an agent to write me a script to figure it out and it came up with: #!/bin/zsh # Logs every change of the frontmost (focused) app with a timestamp. PREV="" while...
In the old days of the web, animating between pages meant faking it with jQuery. Then came pjax, which used pushState to swap in fetched content and fake a full navigation without one, still relying on popState to stop the back button breaking. Every single-page app since has done some version of the same trick,...
Back in the olden days, there was an Insert key on Mac keyboards. (There still is on PC keyboards, although in many programs it doesn’t actually do anything anymore.) If you were editing text, you had two different modes, overwrite and insert. If you were in insert mode, then when text was in front of the cursor,...
I've just made a small update to textual-enhanced, my core library used for most of my Textual-based applications. In v1.6.0 I've extended the "constructor" for ModalInput to allow passing in optional values for password, suggester, title and sub_title. Most of the time I just want to quickly call on ModalInput to...
Did you know that hakkerman.eu was down for about a day? Probably not, but it was. This was caused by a quick power outage, and I have done nothing to make sure it doesnt happen again. It would probably be easy, I need to make sure that all the relevant network interfaces start up automatically and start forwarding...
On today's Anecdotal Evidence, Patrick Kurp writes of the 'unsuspected kindness' of which, happily, the world still has abundant supply. He leads up to the subject by way of an anecdote about an exemplary act of kindness – of Christian charity – by that great poet and man, George Herbert, as recounted in Walton's...

“The intention of deep listening and loving speech is to restore communication, because once communication is restored, everything is possible.” One fact that never fails to astound me: Despite the immense cultural changes and leaps in knowledge over the epochs, the human brain — that crucible of consciousness,...
Social media → Indie web → Personal life → Goals → Waiting "You are being redirected..." That one sentence has been a common sight around the Internet world. Whenever I click on an outdated link, I would either encounter a dead realm or a simple redirect to another page. The latter happens when a webmaster replaces...
🗓️ 29 June to 5 July favourite thing this week Finding an almost complete journalling idea in my notes. writing I'm editing a journalling workshop to publish hopefully this month, alongside another! I've found the draft for the journal that I mentioned above. I really don't remember writing last year (chemo...
My (step) father-in-law has been helping me try and remove a headlamp from our motorhome. It has not been a fun job. We may have done a swear. Or three. I tried it myself for about an hour late last week, to no avail. It’s one of those awkward jobs that was, probably, very easy to do when the van was being built,...
Between the World Cup, ramping up for S8 and our expanding publishing schedule, and the day job, it's been hard to keep up with everything going on. So for this first edition of The Media Guide for season eight, we have a doozy of an issue to catch up on everything we've missed over the course of the last month plus...
This will probably be taken as simple whining by some people. "Oh no the new generation doesn't want to work hard anymore." Problem is, I do. I do want to work, I work hard, I'm not a dumbass. What I don't want to Have to do, is to work during my education. Because I'm already stressed to shit to meet all the...
Bare arms, visible ankles, a more relaxed waistline—the most fashionable “bathing dresses” of 1868 allowed a woman to strip off her day-to-day corsets, feather hats, and petticoats and luxuriate in the freedom of the seaside. This ad for what were also called “bathing costumes” came from Godey’s Lady’s Book, an...
Okay, enough theory. Time to actually start implementing. First step is to download the latest version of the Arduino IDE, which is currently 2.3.10. I've worked with version 1 before so I think I'll get by, but there are also a number of tutorials available to get you up to speed. The Arduino IDE The Arduino IDE...
You would never guess that I used to actively seek out chaos. I mean, today, I look exactly like the kind of person who mentally prepares for a trip to Target like I’m invading Normandy. I get stressed when someone parks in my grocery store parking spot, as though I personally own Space 42. But back in my late...
In their article "Wanting to Write More", Toronto blogger Joshua Maynard, mentions feeling like they're running out of things to say here which, in all honesty, is something I've struggled with in the past too. I have a couple of pieces of advice that may or may not be useful to Joshua or others. Regularity My most...
For the past 25 years, I’ve primarily worked with just one program editor in my professional life: the VB6 editor. But my journey began much earlier - in the early 90s. Back then, things were a bit simpler, or at least more straightforward. Initially, it was just a plain text editor. The first environment worthy of...

It’s absolutely insane how normalized we’ve made it where sacrifices are just expected of women, and the selflessness that is required should somehow be limitless, and any kind of questioning of that labels you terribly selfish and horrible....
Grayson Highlands Camping 2026 Trip: 59 Nights: 194-197 A heatwave hit the east coast just in time for the July 4 weekend. It was over 100F (38C) in RVA. Luckily we were 240 miles away and 1 mile up camping, where the 80F (27C) temps also constitute a heat wave, but one I can handle. We arrived on Thursday, July 2,...
The “Years Ago Today” plugin on my blog just reminded me that I linked to GTA V GeoGuesser four years ago. I clicked just for a laugh, oh, maybe I still remember, haha – and I wasn’t really prepared what a deep feeling of nostalgia and (I guess?) homesickness this would trigger.A long time ago “hanging out in GTA...
2026-07-06Hello!At the end of the fireworks show, the wind picked up. Embers up in the sky were being dragged by the wind, but it was the storm's time for attention. As I was packing up, I pressed the shutter one last time to show a firestorm of stars falling. The camera missed focus, creating thick lines of light...
Up front: if you don't wanna hear me ramble about the state of the U.S. and just want cool firework photos, I get it; scroll down! This is not meant as a dig at anyone who wants to be happy about the 4th of July OR a milestone like 250 years, but as a person of mixed chicano descent who has gone a whole life plagued...
A little over two weeks ago I released Burst and since then I added in a ton of bug fixes, and a completely new Zen mode for people who want to play without sweating the leader boards. Zen mode was born from the realisation that I was wrong about game development. I thought making a game was all about what it looked...
