October 21, 2025 I've been with Geico for the past 8 years. Eight years! I was the definition of a loyal customer—the kind insurance companies love because I just kept hitting "renew" every six months without asking questions. Until this year, when my renewal came in $100 higher at $985 for six months. That finally...
I’ve had some blog stats available on my About page for a while, but I wanted to see if I could make my script a little more robust. For one, I wanted more stats, but I also wanted graphs. What I had before was a simple bash script that would post the total number of posts and the total word count. Every time I...
Yesterday, OpenAI unveiled Atlas, their new app, which is, in a nutshell, a Chromium-based browser that integrates ChatGPT and connects web pages and the A.I. in all kinds of smart ways. Atlas is not the first browser like this, as some users have had access to The Browser Company’s Dia and Perplexity’s Comet for a...
coffeetree: the chatbot paradigm is literally an infinite feed baconlad: hard disagree on this. Its not feeding you content. coffeetree: That’s like saying “I only use this one tiny feature of Facebook, and no other features, and no other platforms, and I handle that paradigm just fine.” And some people do say that....

Looks like we picked the wrong week to fly to a popper-fuelled party at Everest Base Camp. Two and a half years after it happened the first time, my wife developed another detached retina, this time in the other eye. Late on Friday afternoon, my wife texted me to say that she felt as though it was happening again....
I've hit the last straw with Mozilla's antics in Firefox. I've been a Firefox champion for years and years. But every danged upgrade has some new insane junk I don't want or need and they keep popping up these little "tips" to rub my nose in it. I'm sick of it. I'm done. THANKFULLY we have LibreWolf to solve all of...
Three things, among the many, that I'm grateful to God for: Daughter is better after a bad night; Good rest the last several nights after long and stressful days; Coffee, tea, and other fine beverages to enliven the mind and body. ¶ My meditative text recently was Matthew 6.11. It cures many a mind and heart's ills....
⚠️ This is written from the perspective of Ghost theme development. If you're an author/end-user, this information likely won't be helpful. Also, I'm pretty new to Ghost theme development, so it's quite possible I don't have the full picture. YMMV.I wanted full structured data coverage for HanaYou's website. Ghost...
So, this has happened. Again. I rewrote my entire static site renderer from scratch and what you're seeing is "msite 2.0". It should differ very slightly from what was here yesterday, but with time, I want to make some cool things. Those will be revealed in time, but for now: the meat. I know you shiver with...
The Hastings Borough Bonfire Society’s Torchlit Procession, October 2025. Photograph by the author. This weekend just past was the Hastings Borough Bonfire Society’s torchlit procession. I wrote about this last year in a piece called Collective joy & collective ownership of ritual so I won’t describe it again, but...
Bookmarked “Million-Mile Tech ” by Naz Hamid: Durability is the ultimate feature. I wish the technology industry operated with a longer term mindset. Even if we had highly efficient recycling programs (which we don’t) our devices should last more than 2 years. I’m glad the right to repair movement has made some...
Tried the new Koss Porta Pro Wireless Arctic White headphones and instantly fell for their retro charm, foldable design, and easy everyday wear.
Master Go context keys with custom types, avoid collisions using empty structs, and learn accessor patterns for safe request-scoped values.
It’s International Open Access Week. In honor of the occasion, I invite those who have authored or edited an open access book in philosophy to share it in the comments here, with a link to where it is available. Open Access Week is organized by SPARC, a nonprofit advocacy organization that supports open systems for...
15 things: 1 quote, 2 random thoughts, 3 things I'm working on, 4 gratitudes, and 5 things to share. Once a week. Maybe more. Or less. It just depends. Kindness is the only non-delusional response to the human condition - George Saunders Out of the blue: Growing plants from seeds is amazing. Watching something go...
The Transformations, the new novel by Sydney based Australian author Andrew Pippos (Instagram page), will be published next week, on Tuesday 28 October 2025. This is a story for the times, if the synopsis is anything to go by: In the fading glow of Australia’s print journalism era, The National is more than a...
Took the leisurely way up to Lynchburg. This would prove to be a very pretty and most mellow path of the trip. Got there and stayed up late. +
Recently I, like a lot of people who make their living by creating things, have been thinking a lot about so-called AI. I have been forced to do this because so many companies have been stealing the output of people like me in order to train their large language models, despite the fact that we … Continue reading...

I've never read Marie Kondo's book on organizing, the one where she talks about only keeping those things that "spark joy" in you. Furthermore, I've never been to the container store. When it comes to tasks like finding cleaning supplies or, God forbid, first aid stuff, you'd better ask Wonder Woman, because I don't...
You listen to a song, it expresses your own frustrations with society, you feel down; those moments becoming days, into weeks, becoming into a certain breaking point. Throughout all this, this one song keeps you moving, and you even end up meeting one of the people from the band performing. You meet them and they...
Read on the website: ed(1) is a versatile programming system. Yet no one talks about metaprogramming and algorithms in it. Now someone did, and that’s me!

“Ponder for a long time whether you shall admit a given person to your friendship; but when you have decided to admit him, welcome him with all your heart and soul,” Seneca wrote in considering true and false friendship two millennia before we commodified the word “friend” in the marketplace of loneliness we call...
One of the most frustrating things over the last few months has been dealing with my website getting constantly hit with requests from malicious bots repeatedly hammering and scraping my website. Back at the beginning of August I described it as a DDOS attack -- where bots were hammering the old TRHOnline Forums. It...
After Rome and Valencia, Vienna finally pushed me to start writing down Routes Unknown, a running diary of a fat man exploring cities on foot
I’m in Chhattisgarh for field practice until mid-December. For the past two weeks I’ve been living, for the first time, the hostel life, although it is nowhere as adventurous or eventful as the experiences I’ve heard about from other people. I’ve been lazy about settling into a routine since the work we’re expected...
Human cemeteries are fascinating. no question. We try to infer stories about people’s entire lives from just the information on the gravestones. We make assumptions about cause of death based on the date they died. We quietly mourn babies and young children we never knew. We even sometimes get a good laugh at names...
Just deleted/signed out of almost all of my social accounts that I've used over the past decade. I'm a firm believer that the endless feeds of slop by corporations is doing nothing good for my brain, and today I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Instead, I want to read more blogs and write more posts. If you're...
I consistently receive requests from the team to reduce tech debt. Every time, I say similar things. I want to share them here. As a software engineer, you have more power than you think. When you're coding for a new feature, you have the power to refactor a specific part of the codebase. You don't need any...
October 2025. Peles Castle. Sinai. Romania. Mrs RM was so determined to squeeze a Transylvanian castle into her blog our trip that on our final morning in Romania we woke at 6am, took a Bolt to Brasov station, and an hour later were in Sinai on the way to Peles Castle. A week’s holiday and… Continue reading FINALLY...
I’ve seen an increase in talk about this relatively new Wayland compositor called Niri recently and I decided to test drive it for a while. The big thing that sets Niri apart is that it’s a scrollable tiling window manager. If you’ve used a normal tiling window manager, Niri behaves more or less like you’d expect...
A prince is turned into a "shadow puppet" who will bond with the first person who gives him blood. That turns out to be the female general from an enemy kingdom. Sometimes, a drama can be bad, yet highly enjoyable at the same time. Shadow Love is such a drama; it's not a great drama, but it's a fun thirst trap...
