I came across an interesting passage in THEM Anime’s review of a 2023 anime series titled The Dreaming Boy is a Realist. The line and the review were authored by Allen Moody, who I quoted once previously in a New Leaf Journal article on review systems. I emboldened the key point of the quote: Kei sits behind Wataru...
Sheeran delivered everything you'd expect from a person in his position: equivocating, meaningless bullshit that was most likely written by someone else.More reasons not to ever pay attention to Ed Sheeran—not that I've ever intentionally listened to any of his music. There are just so many choices he could have...
Hand mocap is challenge. But I was curious how much could be done with mediapipe and was impressed. MediaPipe has free hand tracking stuff, but I must be doing something wrong because it can detect palms great but turn my hand around and the output goes inside out cryptkeeper #rasdFastwalkerLeague View on Bluesky
HWC: Asia Pacific — Minor UpdatesThe cadence of these virtual meetups have been chugging along quite well IMO. I’ve had the joy of hosting larger groups but also more intimate ones; oftentimes with new faces mixed in with “regulars”. There’s still a lot of room for improvement, on my part as a moderator, for...
And not just because Kev did. 😆 I was amused to see Kev’s post because I had the same experience and realization recently. It dawned on me as I was perusing some big list of links that it really is helpful to have a visual indicator of which ones I’ve already clicked.
I used to have a three screen setup on my desk. At some point, I removed the third screen because I felt weirdly overwhelmed. There was always something to see, to keep track of, to click on, to watch or to adjust while I played or chatted. I wanted more focus on fewer things. Removing the screen really helped me...

Putting a smart watch or band on your wrist means installing an app on your phone. That makes sense, given the tiny screens on these devices. The problem is that these apps tend to do more than you’d expect. Huawei’s, for example, has a store for watch faces and AI-powered coaching and who knows what else it does...
The Highest Practice, Not the Only One mtift Tue, 09/22/2026 - 07:03 I remember standing in front of the display case outside the elevator on the 3rd floor of the Kripalu Center, reading the quote above it. “The highest spiritual practice is self-observation without judgment.” Below the words, in a glass case, was...
I've just made a small update to GopherMap. While doing some work on Rogallo I noticed that, somehow, I wasn't showing a type "badge" for PNG files (p). I spent a moment or two trying to figure out what was wrong with the code in Rogallo, and then realised that I'd managed to miss out both PNG and RTF files in...
This is a post in response to James’ post, and I had to write this right after reading his post, because stickers! A journal isn’t a journal until I’ve put stickers on it. Sometimes I go fancy, layering stickers until I’ve covered it up completely. Other times, just one sticker is enough. But sticker have to be on...
Got home around midnight. I have concussion and a couple stitches in my head, but nothing serious. Few other cuts and bruises too. By far the worst part is my back though - it's in spasm and REALLY painful. Thanks for reading this post via RSS. RSS is ace, and so are you. ❤️ You can reply to this post by email, or...
A million versions of this post exist in my head; there's actually an earlier draft somewhere in my unpublished posts that I'll probably take and morph into something else later on. But right now, it's 3 a.m. and I'm sitting in front of my anatomy work, trying to convince myself I've got more to give. I probably do....
Now that I have the right tools, writing whenever inspiration hits is easy. But I need to make some changes.Having just returned from a run I find myself writing as if in a frenzy. I'm working on another post for this month's Bear Blog Carnival; it's got me very excited. This post requires some work. Not just...
I didn't know until recently. Desktop mode still has a way to go, before it's ready for day-to-day use -- but it's a step in the right direction.
Later today, I will stop by my favorite apple orchard on the way home. I will be buying apples today and then again later in October--all for the sake of writing projects for my classes. Tomorrow my Nonfiction Writing will have 3 kinds of apples, and we'll discuss the kinds of reviews we could write. Then on Friday,...
After a spectacular butterfly summer, there has been very little action since the rains and winds of early autumn put a sudden end to the season. Even now, when we're enjoying a little taste of Indian summer (here, at least), there is little flying, apart from the indomitable whites, speckled woods and red admirals....
This is a major mode for editing sxhkdrc files. SXHKD is the Simple X Hot Key Daemon which is commonly used in minimalist desktop sessions on Xorg (I use it with bspwm, herbstluftwm, and i3wm). The sxhkdrc file configures key chords, binding them to commands. For the technicalities, read the man page sxhkd(1)....
A wormable vulnerability allowed anyone able to inject text in a build log on builds.sr.ht (or other instances) to take over accounts who viewed them
Here are a few nice and interesting design decisions I spotted on various websites in the last months. The pinball repair forum Pinside shows specifically how much time has passed between posts. This is great for orientation and especially when catching up or revisiting – history always gets flattened, and this...
I would benefit the most from journaling when I have no desire to do it. When I am content with myself, I experience no resistance while writing down my thoughts. They can flow easily and there is nothing uncomfortable about it. The habit is easier to uphold, but less reflection is taking place. I don't have to...
Books I grew up in a house stuffed full of books, with no television, and electricity for only an hour or two per day (while the generator was running). There were shelves full of old science fiction (Asimov and Heinlein), as well as books on history, some good old fantasy, and other smatterings collected from...
The best thing that happened this week Better late than never, I finally got around to writing the notes for last week. On Friday night I had a look at the App Store Connect dashboard and noticed CalAction suddenly had a lot of downloads. Turns out some German company pushed the app to their employees which I think...
2026-09-22Hello!I read an article on PetaPixel that inspired me to print my photos to hang up on my wall. I chose this photograph that I haven't published online before. It's a photo similar to Day 130 when I visited Acadia National Park.I used the adhesive strips to hang these up, because for whatever reason, I...
Who could be blamed for thinking AI bots might be conscious, particularly after the recent incident where over a thousand OpenAI agents colluded, of their own accord apparently, to infiltrate the Hugging Face platform. Kristen French, writer and senior editor at Nautilus, posed the question of AI consciousness to...
About 3 days ago, a friend of mine added me back into his private-ish friend group. We had ended it on a terrible note about 3 months prior—I made an ill-timed comment that got on their nerves; completely on me. For once, I felt a bit hopeful about things, a bit hopeful that I could fix everything, but really, I...
Because Luca had the fantastic idea of setting up a PeerTube instance for XPUB, I am testing the installation myself first, and keeping notes here. The PeerTube documentation at some point mentions installing and deploying it with an Ansible playbook (never heard of this before). Even though I do not intend to get...

I made some changes to rss2discord, most notably: Now it batches updates into a single post It lets you provide a custom message which can be used to send a role ping or the like I am mostly posting this blog post to test the latter in production on my server, but also it’s nice to have more visibility for...
Over on my ‘about me’ page, many years ago, back in the teenage years of this millennium, I wrote: My artwork has sold to collectors across the world, mainly facilitated directly through online sales rather than through galleries or agents. And this has, until very recently, been true. Not so much nowadays, though....
Deusdedit was the fourth doge of Venice, ruling from 742 to 755, but we know little more about him than of the previous doges and the "magistri militum".
The episode of The West Wing that’s always bothered me is “Evidence of Things Not Seen,” which is Episode 20 of Season 4. It takes place on the day of the equinox (in March, not September, but I remembered it because today is an equinox), and one of the continuing subplots is C.J. trying to convince the others that...
aka the Mystery of Memory I know every word to “Boom Shake the Room” by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, a song that was on high rotation in the pub/club we frequented in … checks notes … 1993! A researcher switched off a BYD Shark 6’s headlights while a journalist drove it at night. The same investigation demonstrated remote location tracking and access to the cabin microphone. Those are substantial capabilities to lose control of in something you use to get your family home. The demonstration, covered by...
September 2026. Barnsley. My visit to Greater Barnsley, which will shortly end in disaster, had both cultural and cask objectives. Nailmakers Brewery had opened a second tap in Barnsley’s shiny shopping centre, sensibly labelling it “1” to distinguish it from their first bar, which itself was called something to do...
The latest macOS is a nice step toward a good-looking Mac UI, but I do wish it had gone farther. I am in particular not a fan of how Mac toolbars look. I don’t like the full-height sidebars and I especially don’t like the Liquid Glass buttons. I looked around at what other Mac apps are doing. I asked on my microblog...
