Long time no blog. I've been getting through the first marking period, doing Librarian Stuff including prep to receive a donation of Literally One Thousand Books, No Really, Ten Hundred Books Someone is Donating To Us, Can You Believe It, I Still Don't. I guess I'm not getting fired this year, lol. As I come to the...
The Golden "Hand" Bridge (Cầu Vàng) at Ba Na Hills in Da Nang. The park is almost a mile up into the mountains, and on this day was completely enclosed by clouds.
Read on the website: There’s data encoding in Lambda Calculus. But there are also algorithms. Recursive, usually. So let’s look at how recursion works when all you have is lambdas.
Hey! It's been a little while! Don't worry I've got a few other blog posts in the works... but it's due time I have you an update to my adventures in Germany. I have been in Germany for 6 weeks now, and its flown by. I honestly don't know where the time has gone: A mix of socialising, maths, sport, german, english...
Similar to The Wrong Conclusion is another cognitive anti-pattern: in the pursuit of identity we see ourselves as being something as an inherent quality of ourselves versus doing something as a role, a quality being temporarily practiced. This can lead to bad behavior on our part and it limits our ability to grow...
Lauren Walsh: Thomas Mann’s four-part novel, Joseph and His Brothers (1933-43), a tremendously important book to [Albert] Murray’s thinking, enacts this mix of gravity and lightness, in this case even desolation and resilience. In the titular character, who was sold into slavery, Murray saw a rascally figure of the...
The Times of London found itself in an awkward journalistic situation when it printed an article featuring fictitious quotes by former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Time Times of London explained the error as follows, according to the New York Post: The Times has apologized to Bill de Blasio and removed the...
I’ve written about notebooks a lot in the last couple of months. And that should be a pretty good indicator that something fishy is going on. I’m developing a new… interest. I was going to use the word obsession, but I’m not there yet. I have bought some new, but crappy notebooks to replace my Field Notes, and I’ve...
Yesterday I was driving home, in silence, and began to take notice of other drivers and people walking. Given just a few seconds in passing, it is difficult to ascertain how that person might be feeling — or what they are thinking. You don’t get much in the way of facial expressions or body language clues. Was it a...
This blog post explores how Tigris Object Storage's bucket forking feature enables isolated dataset experimentation similar to forking code repositories. It demonstrates creating parallel data timelines for filtering, captioning, and resizing game screenshots without duplicating storage, allowing safe...

October 2025. Sheffield. Up in Sheffield for a couple of nights before heading back down to see Dad, who barely recognises me now, but “stole Colin’s chicken” in the care home today, which shows fighting spirit. Two days to at least confirm our two lads were OK. On Saturday night they went out in Sheffield… Continue...
Claude Code supports images as input. Absolutely incredible; considering that it is a TUI, one would usually not expect the ability to do so. Copy the image to your clipboard as usual, and then paste it in with Ctrl + V, as you would in any GUI app: ▐▛███▜▌ Claude Code v2.0.28 ▝▜█████▛▘ Sonnet 4.5 · API Usage...
Day 38, How do you feel about writing? Is it often cathartic, fun, a chore? I really enjoy writing. It’s cathartic and fun, probably the most rewarding experence ive had outside of my own inner monologue. Outside that, its an escape, I still remember when I was in school. I used to write in my notebook for hours,...
For a while now, probably two years, I wanted to have support for high-contrast colorschemes in KDE Plasma. Technically, this was already doable, by just modifying your colorscheme to such colors. However one thing was lacking: Outlines were calculated automagically with hardcoded value. Well, no more! Now you can...
Passed some bricks and graffiti on the way to Thai Coconut Curry Soup from The Diner. The photos were okay enough on their own but I dunno — felt like muckin' around. +Currently Listening: Tycho & Paul Banks “Boundary Raider”Reply via email
Saya ingat sampai mondar-mandir...
Reorganized my Trilium Notes a bit. Over time I started dumping notes in there and somewhere it all went a bit wayward. I really need to start using it as a proper knowledge base. The good thing is most content that I refer to frequently is all in there. This along with my Signal ‘Note-to-self’ are my go-to spaces....
Today morning I read a really nice article / blog post “The Day My Smart Vacuum Turned Against Me“. The whole story is about a guy who disallowed his smart vacuum cleaner to access the internet. After a while it failed, got repaired, failed again, got repaired and after all stopped working. TL;DR: seems like […]
Our second Kyoto Morning Tech & Coffee brought together another great mix of builders, designers, and technologists living and creating in Kyoto. We kicked things off with open chat before diving into Pick/Ask/Give shares. Pick/Ash/Give is a quick, informal way for everyone to exchange ideas, questions, and...
We bear the heavy burden of a complex consciousness that makes us creatures capable of the Benedictus and the bomb, apes who came down from the trees to kiss the ground with our prayers and scar it with our tranches, to discover mitochondria and mathematics, to invent love and war. Our dual capacity for creation and...
Aloin valmistautua jatkuvasta saavutettavuudesta irtautumiseen...
I had been in such a creative rut this year. Last year, I published 11 videos on my YouTube channel. It may not seem like a lot, but I make videos on YouTube for fun as a creative, not for a living—it’s where I channel my creativity (pun unintended). The kind of videos I make are also very complex and in-depth and...
Watched this last night with friends, very good! I liked how they filled in backstory from the show without being annoying about it; many movies tend to over-explain the backstory and I find that so boring. A couple of my friends hadn’t seen the show, and they got just enough to know what it’s about without spoiling...
Before going out for a bike ride this morning, I checked the Weather app to see the speed and direction of the wind. On days with a decent wind, I prefer to ride out against the wind and come back with it. Here’s what the app showed:

A magical moment as the Straddie ferry leaves the mist behind and heads into the sunrise A trip to Straddie The only space left on the morning ferry was the 6am run. Zaida and JB were game. A storm the night before had left pre-dawn Brisbane wrapped in a thick mist. We made our way out to Cleveland through the...
On this day in 1618, having fallen foul of the monarch once too often, Sir Walter Ralegh, explorer, statesman, soldier and superb writer of poetry and prose, faced death on the scaffold in Old Palace Yard, Westminster. He urged the executioner to make haste, for 'at this hour my ague comes upon me. I would not have...
Sometimes, philosophical terms mean one thing, but sound like they really ought to mean something else. That was the premise of the Uxbridge Dictionary of Philosophy, a compilation of “misdefinitions” of philosophical ideas, started by Anthony Gottlieb and compiled and maintained by the late D.H. Mellor. Dubbed the...

Today was a good day for me on the internet. I was struggling with a design for a hobby project I am in the planning stages of, so i hit up the Laser Pointer Forum asking for advice on how to build a particular piece of kit. The helpful folks there pointed me to The Laser Cookbook : 88 practical projects by Gordon...
