Electronic shelf labels (ESLs) have arrived at the grocery store. Kroger says it is "committed to using this technology responsibly and ethically" so there shouldn't be anything to worry about. + photos
zoxide: It remembers which directories you use most frequently, so you can “jump” to them in just a few keystrokes. For example: z perrotta.dev jumps to ~/Workspace/perrotta.dev/ z dotfiles jumps to ~/.dotfiles I had one issue. Given these two directories: ~/corp/gitops ~/corp/gitops-china z gitops was selecting the...
We spend our lives trying to see our own light, to catch its surprising refractions on the face of the world, to play in its waterfalling golden blue radiance until we are ready to lie down in the bright black of time as the stars go on spinning, their fractured hieroglyphics encoding the memory and mystery of being...
It's been almost three months since the last major Wait Wait Stats Updates post from July 2025 and there have been a couple of updates to the project.
Blog meta I have not fussed with the blog, so we're still on Zola. As site generators go, Zola seems to be gaining popularity for its stability, which is another way to say the developers haven't broken things in the name of "upgrades". The little Chromebook must have a tired battery because it doesn't seem to hold...
The built-in audio output menu in macOS has always felt a bit limited. The icons aren’t very helpful, the device names can’t be customised, and if you’ve got a few different outputs, it becomes tricky to quickly tell what’s what. I wanted a faster and clearer way to switch devices, ideally without opening System...

Thorny rose beautiful and untouchable like the dreams I never dared to pursue you are the flower my garden was made for
(See how I cleverly did not mention AI in the title!) You know we have seen more than our fair share of slop reports sent to the curl project so it seems only fair that I also write something about the state of AI when we get to enjoy some positive aspects of this technology. … Continue reading A new breed of...
We discover that it is unwise to put out carved Halloween pumpkins in the opening days of October, especially when the wehether is consistently in the 70s and 80s.

I’m one page away from filling up my first little field notes notebook. I wrote about a month ago about my attempt at using field notes as an supplementary note taking method. I’ve talked since then in a video about how this has become a little bit of an obsession and how it has kind of changed the way I do things....
2. Vampire: Would be better if in the line ‘Blood-sucker, fame-fucker, bleeding me dry like a goddamn vampire’, “fame” was replaced with a word that could be either “vain” or...
It seems to be a trend in my life that when I have work, I never post here. I've only noticed this because of my Listography post tracking, which is completely understandable. As a low-energy person, I either work or live/do other stuff. I can't do much when I'm absorbed in conference work, translating or...
September 2025. Sheffield. You’ll remember (well, Russ will, he takes notes) that I’d started the Sheffield Half Pint Marathon in full Bass Star kit, spraining a metaphorical ankle by losing the stickered map after a week, having to start again, then losing interest when the new GBG “dropped” (ugh). I actually made...
Eric Prouzet And now we see it clear, like a Cupertino sunrise bathing Mt. Bielawski in amber: Apple will censor its App Store at the behest of the Trump administration without putting up a fight. It will twist words into their antipodes to serve the powerful at the expense of the weak. To better serve autocrats, it...
The first half of the week was hectic. I am taking a week off from work (Wed to Wed), so the work week was busy as I tried to close as many loops as possible. The idea is to spend time with family in Thrissur; otherwise, Uma has holidays and gets to enjoy... The post Weekly Notes 41/2025 first appeared on Thejesh GN.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, and by extension more American, will British English become obsolete?
Weeknote #14. Too lazy to try and rhyme “fourteen.” Life Notes Last weekend I ran a half-marathon in West Virginia. The weather was beautiful, the vibes were nice, and I ran it faster than I expected to. Not a bad way to spend the second-to-last-weekend of my 40s. If reading about running doesn’t bore you, there’s a...
The colours of the trees and the quality of light just now, as the greens of summer fade and autumn tints begin their takeover, puts me in minds of that great English painting, The Reapers by George Stubbs, which hangs in Tate Britain (digression: I didn't know that the Tate was originally called the National...
🧭 Overview It’s been another eventful week across the cybersecurity landscape — from critical vulnerabilities in cloud and VPN infrastructure to new ransomware tactics and growing concerns about AI-driven phishing. Below is a curated breakdown of the most important cyber and infosec stories from the past seven days,...

I haven’t posted a written entry for a while—the last entry was on 20th September, 21 days ago. The reason for this is not that I lost interest, but rather the many changes in my environment, due to moving out from one city to another, which has left me overwhelmed. Due to ADHD, my mind can notice minute differences...
Maybe this experiment won’t last, but this week, I decided to remove Wipr from my Mac and my iPhone. I wanted to see what my web browsing experience would be like without it. Wipr is arguably the best content blocker for Safari — I’ve been using it for years — and one of the main reasons I keep using Safari, despite...
