Candost

I used to think that reading would make me wise. One day, ten pages before finishing a book, I realized that I had read that same book before. At that point, my perspective on reading and, therefore, my life had changed. Now, I don’t care how many books I read; I take many notes, connect dots, and share what I’ve found on my blog and newsletter. I’m interested in many things at the same time (I’m a multipotentialite). On this blog, you’ll find me talking to about multiple aspects of life like leadership, software engineering, philosophy, psychology, software architecture & design, urban & industrial design, exercising, finance, Formula1 Racing, eating healthy, and many more. I’m a software engineering manager; that’s my current job. At home, I’m a writer and an avid reader. I rarely watch TV, movies or TV series. I don’t have any social media account (except Mastodon where I have automated posting of my new articles). Hence, I often miss the popular culture references in conversations. That’s alright. I don’t have FOMO; I embrace JOMO. I rarely read fictional books.

Hey, friend, Happy Tuesday! Today, I'm going to tell a little story about myself and share some learnings. After thinking about and receiving a lot of good feedback, I decided to become an Engineering Manager and seek a people leadership position. It was a while ago. After my decision, I did what I had known for my...

How Strongly I Recommend It: 9/10 How Likely I Will Gift It: 7/10 📖 The Book in 3 Sentences Acknowledge the pain in your life, accept to live with it, choose the right painful experiences, and don't leave it to chance. Understanding your values is difficult and requires a lot of self-awareness, mindfulness, and...
Hey friend, Before I became a team lead, one of my biggest struggles was understanding how to become a leader. I always thought that I needed to have the title to be a leader, and I even didn't understand how to be one without it. Because I wasn't in the "important meetings." I thought if you're not there, you're...
As you may know that I'm talking about leadership and management for a while. It is the career path I wanted to pursue, and I've been both lucky and unfortunate for studying leadership before becoming a team lead. After becoming a team lead, I talked with a couple of managers, and some of them said the same. I'm...
22: Effective 1:1 Meetings for Software Engineers Reply via email | Reply via Mastodon | Comment
We all have been in a meeting with a team discussing a challenge in the project. One of the engineers has strong opinions and loudly shares ideas. Around the end, it looks like people start to accept the engineer's ideas. To confirm everyone agrees, the leader repeats the suggestion and asks if there are any...
Hey friend, I hope you are doing great. My last two weeks were hectic in my new role. There are many learnings and new and updated relationships, and I'm creating a different perspective in my life. After a long time, I finally don't feel tired, although my calendar is full. Becoming a team lead was officially a...
Every day, I either write one to three pages or rewrite what I wrote the day before. Currently, I am writing the 69. page of my notebook now, and I feel empty. Although I have many topics to write about, my mind is blank in all of them. Whatever subject I picked, no words came out. I'm not tired. I woke up around...
One of the struggles organizations face is getting lost in the decision-making process. Many leaders either use a lot of authority or seek consensus. More often than not, they stick to one decision-making style for everything. Conflicts happen, hearts get broken, and frustrations come from every direction, resulting...
I always thought that we needed to learn all of the fundamentals of a topic before taking any action. It was the approach I took as a software engineer. I spent my whole life going down rabbit holes, researching, learning, and coming up with solutions that substantially solved the problem. I was wrong. All I needed...
