Candost

I used to think that reading would make me wise. One day, ten pages before finishing a book, I realized that I had read that same book before. At that point, my perspective on reading and, therefore, my life had changed. Now, I don’t care how many books I read; I take many notes, connect dots, and share what I’ve found on my blog and newsletter. I’m interested in many things at the same time (I’m a multipotentialite). On this blog, you’ll find me talking to about multiple aspects of life like leadership, software engineering, philosophy, psychology, software architecture & design, urban & industrial design, exercising, finance, Formula1 Racing, eating healthy, and many more. I’m a software engineering manager; that’s my current job. At home, I’m a writer and an avid reader. I rarely watch TV, movies or TV series. I don’t have any social media account (except Mastodon where I have automated posting of my new articles). Hence, I often miss the popular culture references in conversations. That’s alright. I don’t have FOMO; I embrace JOMO. I rarely read fictional books.

When we experience a negative emotion, it is a way for our body to nudge us to change our conditions; it is a call to action. Our body tells us to avoid all triggers that cause the negative experience. Our hormones have evolved to tell us that unpleasant experiences shouldn't be repeated. On the other hand, the same...
Suffering and pain are born from a biological need during evolution. Humans seek to suffer all the time. That's why, regardless of richness, poverty, aloneness, being entirely social, hungriness, and fullness, everyone suffers from different things. Because evolution is based on small changes and adaption to the...
"Every successful writing should leave the reader with one and only one thought, not two, not three, or five. One." — Zinsser In non-fiction, it's tempting always to fire ideas and arguments to the reader. Some of them support the original idea and can be used. However, it's difficult to follow up on the second or...
Every story has elements inside. Some people list fundamental elements of a story with more than five items. However, in its essence, there are only three: A character, a challenge, and a goal. The character has to resolve the challenge to reach the goal. Whatever happens in between forms the story. Related Note(s):...

Simple ideas can prevent complicated problems. We often seek complex solutions because we want to stand out from the crowd. Simple ideas are available to everyone. They are often the first thing people learn. When we want to take an extra step, we search for complex answers. Yet, simple ideas not only solve but also...
Hey friend, Happy Tuesday! I sent the first Mektup on Jan 28, 2021. In ten months, Mektup changed and became what it is today: letters to share my learnings and experiences about software engineering leadership. When I send a letter, it's important that I also get a letter back. Therefore, thanks for all your...
When Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi recognized the idea of flow, we finally had a name to define the pleasure we get from what we do. Many of us experience "the flow" each day; we lose all the distractions, dive into something, and do not notice how the time flew by. Csikszentmihalyi doesn't mention losing track of time...

Hey friend, I usually learn from my mistakes, but I additionally want to look at my successful attempts because we can also improve our lives when we repeat things that work. In the past, I made small advancements in the team to help me learn different disciplines and improve my communication. Today, I want to talk...
Recently, I became the book supplier for my father. Choosing books for someone else is a powerful position, and I take it seriously and feel responsible. Everything all started a couple of years ago. Before my parents got retired, they didn't have time to read. I remember them coming home, preparing and having...
