It's my favorite game. I'm a very slow gamer, especially if I want the game to last forever.I think it took me over 4 years to finish the main game from Witcher 3. I finally got through the first DLC, "Hearts of Stone" last year. Daniel's the opposite of me. He usually speeds through the main quest and ignores...
I've been reading that YouTube has just released a feature that lets you A/B test videos. I have opinions on A/B testing, which I've mentioned before. The crux of the problem is that A/B testing presumes either A or B is the right answer, and it optimises for popularity. In YouTube's case, engagement is probably...
I recently rewatched two reviews of AI companion devices from Marques Brownlee (a.k.a. MKBHD), which both came out in April 2024 – the Humane AI Pin and the Rabbit R1: Brownlee is a charismatic reviewer, and I won’t lie – there’s a certain amount of delicious schadenfreude seeing two products announced with so much...

Yeah, yeah, you can do it normally and just figure out that fifteen minus seven is eight. But you can also take the tens-complement to seven (which is three) and add that to the last digit which is five and that makes eight. It works for all single-digit numbers subtracted from a number 10–19. When you’re...
Roshan: Wikipen Another day with more action. == Browser Use Is Hard == [[File:{{#setmainimage:Screenshot_-_browser_view.jpg}}|thumb|Obviously one must distinguish between "wait, let me do this bit" and "go ahead, I just want to watch"]] For the most part, my assistant works quite well. A little introduction to Osaka and the surprisingly charming neighborhood that was our homebase while there.

l’ve started to learn several new crafts with wool this year, but none impacts me as much as nålebinding, a craft where you use a wooden or bone sewing needle to create woollen objects like mittens, headbands, hats or circle scarves. a nålebinding needle in a couple rows of stitches Above is my current on the go...
Share a song you feel was ahead of its time. There are some obvious tracks, Blue Monday (‘83) sounds like a track from the mid 90s club nights, I Feel Love (‘77) setting up electronica that wouldn’t appear for at least a decade, Teardrop (‘98) laid tracks for trip-hop artists to follow, and you could even argue that...
This is an entry from my journal. I comment on the psychosynthesis of the bully. Reading the BBC’s article with the title How to spot a psychopath at work - from a man who worried he could be one made me think of my time at the European Parliament and of the human nature I have been so attentive to all this time....
This is a long-form written guide for the fight AAC Heavyweight M1 (Savage) in the game Final Fantasy 14, where the challenger and their seven friends fight the Elezen succubus Vamp Fatale. You may call this the XeBin guide in party finder listings. If you want to experience this fight, don't read this guide. This...
Thoughts of Widdershins writes: I see a lot of posts about people leaving platforms. … What strikes me is that hardly anyone is leaving for something big. They’re going smaller. A personal site, a self-hosted app, a capsule nobody’s going to stumble onto by accident. Gordon over at Happily Imperfect wrote a reply...
Following my recent post about not checking Mastodon, a reader raised an interesting privacy concern regarding Webmentions. They explained that they had stopped using Webmentions altogether because Fediverse users often don't realise - or explicitly consent to - their replies being republished on an external blog....

Yesterday I accompanied Mrs N – who is rather keener on this sort of thing than I am – to an event in the cathedral titled 'Keeping the Faith: Can Christianity Save the West?' Three good guest speakers were lined up – Jamie Franklin, author of The Great Return: Why Only a Restoration of Christianity Can Save Western...
Media Film/TV Not really any movies lately! My partner cajoled me into watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which I had initially dismissed while it was airing because I was burnt out on the world of ASOIAF and a show about a normal knight didn’t sound terribly interesting. As it turns out, everyone is right: it...
Yesterday I drove down to Columbia, SC to meet my parents so that we could all go to the James R. Crumley Archives banquet. In years past, I've seen pictures of the event, and I've always been curious. This year, schedules aligned, and we could go.Each year, as far as I can tell, the banquet is held at a different...
The second season of the anime adaptation of The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten aired for 12 episodes from April 3, 2026, through June 19 of the same. The first season had aired for 12 episodes three years prior in 2023. The anime adapts an ongoing Japanese light novel series of the same name. I had reviewed the...
Last edited 15 minutes ago. So the deed is done. The 11 year long relationship is over. There was no arguing or fighting or begging. Just a lot of crying and sobbing and bleary eyes. We took a walk through the park nearby, and I thought that was fitting. That was one of the first things we did after I moved in with...
Almost as soon as we moved back to Denmark in February, we booked a trip to Frankfurt in September. Because a) we suspected that we'd need a break from our daily life, b) I'd need my dose of airplane photography in EDDF and c) food. More to the point, Lufthansa announced yet again that they'll be phasing out the...
“Brute force crushes many plants. Yet the plants rise again. The Pyramids will not last a moment compared with the daisy.” We live in a culture that has warped strength from the measure of our interior tenacity into the magnitude of our forceful self-assertion. We also live in a culture that has warped sensitivity...

Mood: Aggressively dorky and entirely unbothered. There is a singular word I would love to ban from everywhere. It has transformed from a nice and descriptive literary word into shorthand internet speak. There is always a certain attitude that follows this word. Everyone that uses the phrase, "that's cringe," hates...
Brian Martell 1938-2026. A slightly revised version of what I said at my dad's funeral. Brian was born in 1938 in Wolverhampton. He kept a trace of black country in his accent through his life. Of course, he supported Wolverhampton Wanderers, and even in his last days in hospital was asking about the Wolves scores....

Like a lot of people, I’m bummed about Reddit cutting off RSS access. I have a few subreddits that I like to check on regularly in my feed reader, and their feeds will no longer exist after mid-November. The good news is that Lemmy, the fediverse alternative to Reddit, has RSS feeds and likely always will. Lemmy...
hello all my lovelies! to celebrate the turn of the month, we bring you a new lavender (aka "all things queer!") carnival, with a rather eggcellent topic to sink your teeth into. (do not take this as a directive to sink one's teeth into a raw egg, i repeat, do not–) anyway. the question for october's lavender...
Back in April, I was invited to read this ARC and, as I was in a fairly good place and a few of the authors are known quantities, I accepted. (Little did I know what would soon come my way.) Bewares for the collection as a whole: Christmas as setting rather than religious holiday; explicit sex on page, including...

Not much! The White Bear, by Henrik Pontoppidan. Two novellas in a nice little nyrb edition. I liked both of them a lot, especially the first one. I don't really know why, but I love reading about the clergy. Particularly when it's small-time, rather pathetic. Also I haven't gone wrong so far with nyrb editions. On...
For years, advocates for web standards, performance, and accessibility have implored web developers to “use the platform”. I’ve often been one of those advocates. The argument is simple: why build something yourself, in JavaScript, when the browser can do it for you? Whatever you build, it’s likely to have poorer...

September 2026. Leeds. An intesting collection of new Beer Guide entries in West Yorkshire; not much in the cities themselves, but you’ll need to change at Leeds station to get to Todmorden, and Morley, Harrogate et al. I could have walked to Headingley’s new Spoons from the main station, but Rockin Rich was going...
I’m continuing to buy issues of Comics Buyer’s Guide lethargically whenever a really cheap lot shows up on ebay. (It’s just a strange category of magazine — it really has no discernible value, so it’s not worth the work (for sellers) of putting them up for sale. So you almost only see people who are er somewhat...
