would they tell you how happy they are the friends they've made the grass they ate moo moo moo would they sing the farmer's praise for relieving their breasts of too much milk and bringing them new babes moo moo moo would they tell of the pens in which they're kept or big barns in which they lay the fields of grass...
June 2026. Yerevan. A second night in Gyumri, exploring a Soviet amusement park, but deciding against the wheel, before heading back to the wonderful station on Thursday morning. I don’t think it actually sells tickets or anything, but it looks the part. Three hours later we’re back in Yerevan, bags dumped back in...
As I write this, it's been about a month since my unemployment ran out. The upshot to this, I suppose, is that I don't have to spent each and every day scanning job boards, cranking out variants of my resume 1, and applying for jobs, because when you're on unemployment you have to track the positions you applied...

OverviewThis week was less about one headline vulnerability and more about the systems we quietly trust: network controllers, voice platforms, PLM tools, firewalls, browser extensions, AI agent skills, proxy infrastructure, remote management tools, and malware triage pipelines. The through line is simple enough:...
Welcome to Gerrymandle! Draw electoral district lines to win more seats than your opponents and win the election! Win the election for purple. Draw 5 districts of 6 populated tiles so that they win more districts than any other party. This is fun! And eye-opening. — § —Reply via email#gaming #serenity %commentary
You stroll around a traditional market in town, stop at a stall and have a look at what’s on offer. You’re never alone, as others are doing the same. Unless you’re in a hurry and you like people, it’s quite common to strike up a casual conversation with other stall-goers or even the stallholder. “The stand is quite...
A few months ago I was getting ready for a trip by doing what I normally do: fill my e-reader full of new books. The trip included a very long journey on a train, so I wanted to make sure I had plenty to read (another reason why I prefer e-readers to physical books). I use Libby to borrow books, and my local library...
It’s incredibly boring to talk about a music concert in text form, but yesterday I watched the Foo Fighters play live in Anfield, Liverpool as part of the Take Cover 2026 tour. The first hour and a half was incredible, with me grinning throughout. I’m not afraid to say that during Learn to Fly I got a bit emotional...
Hello fellow haters of marketing emails that you get signed up for on the way to creating accounts, sometimes as an explicit checkbox (this is not about you companies, you are gorgeous and I love you) but mostly as an implicit acceptance that yes, I have created an account and of course I also want to be sent all...
George Musser, writing for Nautilus, ponders the nature of coincidence, particularly the more “out there” instances. Read about his repeated encounters with another backpacker, as he travelled — solo — in Africa some years ago. I could probably write at length on this topic. For instance… A few years ago, someone...
One of my favorite visuals for known vulnerabilities in curl is the mountain. It shows how many currently known vulnerabilities were present in the code through-out curl’s history. In the end of June 2026 it looks like this: Over time we get more vulnerabilities reported. Since every flaw has a version range during...
I almost burned out recently. I didn’t! But I almost did. It’s wild how after a little time pulling myself out of that mindset and clearing some things off of my plate, I suddenly want to blog again, make more videos again, and code again. Luckily (?), because I’ve burnt out before (which I’ve written about), I can...
Say you put a cache in front of Postgres to speed up reads. A hot key expires: the next request misses the cache, so it queries Postgres to refill the key the key is popular, so while that first query runs, a hundred more pile in for it they all miss too, and each fires its own query Postgres ends up running a...
This essay was originally published as the cover story in the Summer 2025 issue of Orion Magazine. “Who are you?” the caterpillar barks at Alice from atop the giant mushroom, and Alice, never quite having considered the question, mutters a child’s version of Emily Dickinson’s “I’m nobody! Who are you?” Before he was...
This one was slightly less angry at me But I think that comes with the territory of not being near their offspring who is learning how to fly. Anyway, here's some bird. I enjoy bird, thought you might also. .slider-before, .slider-after { user-select: none; } /* image for the RIGHT of the slider*/ /* image for the...
In 1982, the videogame Yars’ Revenge for the Atari 2600 needed to show a “neutral zone” in the middle of the screen. The console was so primitive – an entire great book was written about this – that it didn’t have any video memory. Any cheap effect would do, even random noise… but something as simple as generating...
Stolen from the 1990 film “Hardware” - Angry Bob. This month started off with a colonoscopy, which, honestly, is not the best way to start a month. *record scratch* - let me explain (spoiler: I’m absolutely fine). Here in the UK the NHS sends out home testing kits for bowel cancer (called colorectal cancer in the...
Kedara.eu is 2 years old today! :) On 26-06-(20)26 of all dates! This is one of my postcards: short, handwritten messages—from me to you. Thank you for reading this via RSS! View this article on my website. Replies: E-mail / Fediverse / Webmention
By: Louis A. DiMarco | Rating: 2/5Two chapters are relevant, but incredibly thin on theory. The rest is a fairly well written overview of a number of urban operations scenarios, clearly chosen to stress the authors' point, whatever it may be. The whole thing has a sizable US slant. So yes. We have more cities, so...
A mission post by Sarik tr’Vrenak Mission - Lick Your Fingers Clean Between all the gilded pretense expected of him as he stood at the Empress's side, or rather a step back from it, during the public facing nonsense of running the empire, and what was demanded of him by his task masters, who presented themselves as...
2026-06-26Hello!I borrowed a friend's camera to test the "microscope mode" on this leaf. It worked out better than I expected; I can see the individual dots on the leaf, and capture the small raindrops. While on my rainy photowalk continued from yesterday, I walked into the woods to see what interesting leaves,...
The Occasional Weeknote seems to be getting every so slightly more occasional with each week that passes. It’s been almost a month since the last one. Sorry? Last week, I had my second ER visit of the year (I’m fine, but learned what it feels like to pass out… it’s weird and disorienting). I’d be OK with no more ER...
My first rather large #3DPrinting project. Can anyone work out what they are? (No they're not abstract Starship Enterprises) Thanks for reading this post via RSS. RSS is ace, and so are you. ❤️ You can reply to this post by email, or leave a comment.
Gifting can be fulfilling. The gifting person almost always gains something as much as the receiver of our present. Many of our actions are driven by motivation. Gifting is also one of them. Seeing the other person happy or showing them how much we care rewards us enough to put effort into the gift. If we remove...
Coeur d’Alene has been one of my favorite races ever since I raced my first full-distance Ironman here in 2023; it has a lovely swim, a challenging bike course, and one of the best run courses in North America. While I DNF’d that first full-distance race, I’ve had good results at the 70.3 distance here—last year I...
Apple's full statement: The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these...
I am of two brains. I need structure, but I hate planning. We had decided to stay in Iceland for a few weeks while visiting family and attending family gatherings. But, that left a lot of empty columns in the calendar, and people asking me if we have any plans. I shrugged and asked if they had any ideas. As time...
I've released Rogallo v0.3.0, which mostly concentrates on adding command line support and sorting support for browsing files in the local filesystem. There are also a couple of cosmetic configuration options thrown in. Configurable cosmetics Starting with the cosmetic configuration options: I got to feeling that...
Why sacred texts, intelligence tests, and our newest machines all draw their power from seeming unchangeable — and why that is the very thing that hollows them out. The keyboard you are reading this on is badly designed, and everyone knows it. The QWERTY layout was arranged for the mechanical typewriters of the...
Sad news indeed. I traded emails with Om many years ago, it was no doubt on the topic of the nascent blogging boom that was happening at the time, and whilst I don’t recall the specifics, I do remember the kind consideration. Always a sensible voice, there was a balance to his writing, a gentle worldliness, that I...
Each day of Pride Weekend in San Francisco has a different feel. The Trans March on Friday is a protest—some years more than others—and on Sunday the Pride Parade itself is more of a string of corporate advertisements than anything else. The Saturday sandwiched between, the day of the Dyke March, is a fucking...
There's roughly a billion videos on YouTube about how great a device the Steam Deck is, so I'm not going to sell you one. I'm also not going to tell you about its specs, because spec-for-spec it's already long been beaten by the likes of the ROG and the MSI Claw. What those other devices have in common though, and...
