Some links don’t call for a full blog post, but sometimes I still want to share the good stuff I encounter on the web. ❧ Fancy Man Enjoys Tea (The Onion) – “Instead of simply heating a mug of water in the microwave, Baumer used a hoity-toity copper-bottomed tea kettle, which His Lordship reportedly purchased at Pier...
💡Read The Nonsense Machine now!Have you spent any time in a small business or tech repair shop like Benny’s?I remember going to them as a kid with my parents, and each one was chaotically stuffed like a moving van, or closet when a new partner is coming over. The counters and workbenches were always full of tools,...
Problem statement: the Keychron K2 (C3, stock firmware) disconnects from macOS after ~10 minutes idle — and there’s no way to prevent it. I spent some time looking for a fix. The usual suggestions: Disable Bluetooth auto-sleep in macOS? macOS doesn’t do that — the keyboard decides to sleep, not the host. Install a...

2026-06-20Back at the car show...Hello!I'm writing short articles to accompany previous photos that I thought should have been included on this website anyway. I've got a massive backlog on my computer of both recent and old files that I need to tread through, and this time away from taking photos will hopefully be...
After CalAction I wanted to experiment a bit with SpriteKit and try to make a small game for iPhone. I don't usually play any games on my iPhone myself, because most are overrun with garbage like ads and loot boxes. With Burst I wanted to do things differently. The bubble shooter genre (if you can call it that) has...

While still knowing just how much He loves me Illustration by the wonderful Gillian Eilidh O’Mara, who is also a wonderful writer. Someone once said there’s a sure way to know if you are a humble person: If you think you are, you’re not! I’ve pondered the idea of humility a fair bit, over the years. I do not see it...
From Brad Woods, a messy (in a good way) and copiously illustrated/animated exploration of “juice,” or: Our wet little term for constant and bountiful user feedback. A juicy game element will bounce and wiggle and squirt and make a little noise when you touch it. A juicy game feels alive and responds to everything...

The most stubborn facts are those of the spirit, not those of the physical world. — Jean Gottmann, Geography and International Relations In 1914, before the First World War, there was this belief: “a European war would be economically disastrous, the moneyed classes won’t let it happen”. Europe went to war anyways,...
Why bounce back and forth between So many options? Choose one and glean From others what you can, but fix Upon the one. Else you will mix Together what should remain clean. Evaluate as best you may Within a time, perhaps a day, And don’t look back, but be serene. Avoid the mental politics. While choosing, don’t...
Top Matter: Codeberg for the library, doc for the library. I bought an Xteink X4! It’s small! It’s cheap! It’s hackable! I have an e-book collection, if you could call it that, but I always purchased PDFs. This thing reads epubs by default, which I don’t have. I want to use this to read my books! So I’ve been...

June 2026. Armenia. There’s no stopping Mrs RM. No sooner did Wizz Air start twice-weekly flights from Luton to Armenia than she’s booked bargain seats and got a full itinerary for the trip, 16 hour bus tours and all. The theme for Yerevan will be ticking camels. I haven’t seen a camel yet. Or a pint of Bass. Our...

I recently read an article by Adriane Quinlan for Grub Street titled Dark, Dense, and Disappearing How pumpernickel bagels became an endangered species. The headline concerned me. I am a fan of the pumpernickel bagel. While I like most non-everything bagels (everything tend to be too salty for my taste),...
As usual - not counting the personal blogs I read :) I think after this one, I am fucking tired about hearing of digital sovereignty, and will stop reading about it for a while. online articles Leak Exposes Members of Peter Thiel’s Secretive ‘Dialog’ Society (Archive) - the big news story going around. I just saw a Brit on BlueSky mocking “an actual respected American online news commentator” for pronouncing “Macron” to rhyme with “Ramone.” My first thought: Pronounce the word “Paris” for me. Likewise, one of the Guardian footy commentators was recently annoyed by a (supposed) American mispronunciation of Paraguay...
Work continues on my terminal-based Gemini client. So far today I've done a bunch of work on tweaking the presentation of a site, improving some of the widgets that go into the on-screen document. I've also added the start of a history system. So now it's easy to navigate backwards and forwards between pages. While...
SpaceX’s IPO is restricted to Chinese and Hong Kong investors. There are similar trends in chips and AI technology, too (the Fable 5 LLM model is restricted to the US by the US government because of its power). SpaceX is not the main thing. The problem stems from gaining access and influence over a country’s defence...
Fragments on Eccentricity The concept of fomo has always alluded me. Part of the reason is a persistent need for eccentricity, for growing against the grain. That is not to say that I am persistently rebellious, but that there is a natural aversion to doing things “the way everyone else does it”. The word...
More than a year ago, I bought a copy of Carlyle's The French Revolution, all three volumes of it contained in one slim India-paper volume. It has been my bedtime reading, off and on, ever since, and last night I finally reached the end, Chapter VIII of volume three, aptly titled Finis: 'Homer's Epos, it is...
The other week I was the MC for day 2 of CSS Day conference. It was my first time ever being an MC for a conference! I was so excited and, honestly, very nervous at the start. My hands were shaking a lot, and it's no wonder, as Bruce Lawson had been the MC of the previous day, and that's a tough act to follow. And...

Let's be enthusiast about something for a change. And then apologize for a stupîd mistake, because nice things are no fun if you don't mess them up.
David Sinclair’s secret pill is the decoy. His longevity contest is really a bid to privatize the measurement of aging itself — and a Saudi sovereign wealth fund is paying to host the carving of the ruler. The pill is a decoy. The most valuable thing in David Sinclair’s longevity contest is not a drug that makes you...
A year of reading the Tales and Teachings from the Bhagavata Purana One year ago, I started reading Bhakti Yoga, Tales and Teachings from the Bhāgavata Purāṇa by Edwin Bryant. I picked it up because I absolutely love his book on the Yoga Sūtras and after reading the Bhagavad Gītā, I wanted to learn more about bhakti...
RFC 10008 is brand new a specification detailing the new HTTP method called QUERY: This specification defines the QUERY method for HTTP. A QUERY requests that the request target process the enclosed content in a safe and idempotent manner and then respond with the result of that processing. This is similar to POST...
I ran into the classic “range over a channel” leak while working on a custom cron scheduler. I’ve debugged it on prod many times before, but writing one myself in a small piece of code reminded me how easy it is to write bugs like this even when you know about it. Here: on each tick, the scheduler dispatches the...

Working with a wonderful team of collaborators, the pavilion will...
I read a post the other day about why many men don’t want to celebrate their birthday. I am one of those men. I’ve never really given why I feel that way much thought. I’m pretty sure it’s not related to any traumatic birthday from years gone by, so it’s definitely wrapped up in a general dislike of being MADE the...
I took this week off from work and I had wanted to spend the time being wildly productive, but of course reality happened and it was [fart noises] pretty chill instead. I made zero progress on any side projects, but I did clean my apartment, touch grass, hang out, read books, play Destiny, and get cooked by the sun....

Christian Tietze: For a while now I’ve been working with the people at Shiny Frog – the team behind Bear – on something new. Today it goes into beta testing. It’s called Lettera, and it’s a Markdown editor for macOS. I’ve always liked Bear’s look and feel, but i’ve never liked the idea of putting my notes in a...
It’s like any other dayOn Friday I turned 32. My wife made me a cinnamon bun cheesecake and we had her signature kiribath (milk rice) and loonu thel dala (caramelised onions cooked with spices and tamarind paste) for breakfast. After work, we went to an Italian restaurant near where we live for dinner. A quiet day,...
OK maybe it's probably just me but, I often want to "Like" other peoples blog posts after I read them and find something I enjoyed. For me, it is a simple way of saying: "hey I read this" and also "hey I like your post"! In the indieweb/smol-web this …
Following the Lombard invasion and conquest of Venetia, a part of the Venetian population of the mainland cities fled or left for the settlements in the nearby lagoons.
Every mind, even the greatest, is a product of its time and place. The true visionaries are those unwilling to mistake the figments of their culture for facts; those daring enough to look at the world not through the microscope that magnifies the concerns of the present, not through the telescope that squints at the...
No search engine or AI model will be able to answer the questions that are most important on a personal level: the existential ones. Robert Birming Robert touching here on the contradiction of contemporary "always on" society; a culture moulded on consumerism. If everything you could ever need is less than three...
There are several problems with self-hosting at home by exposing the local network to the Internet. Among them, the public IPv4 address of the home network might change unexpectedly, requiring a Dynamic DNS configuration. Furthermore, exposing a home’s public IP address may be a privacy concern. This is why it is...
