May 2026. Biertan. Transylvania. Due to Mrs RM’s immaculate travel planning (she could be a pub ticker) we’ve managed to avoid any transport disasters in eastern Europe so far, bar that two hours stuck on a gravel track in small-town Albania. But Biertan had no bus service at all, bar that UNESCO service that had...
Since kicking off the work on BlogMore and blogmore.el, I've absolutely found that I've reduced the friction involved when it comes to writing a quick (or not so quick) blog post. I've also found that I want to go back and tidy up lots of my old posts. Over the past few weeks I've gone and cleaned up the size and...

This essay is adapted from Traversal and continues the story of the making of Leaves of Grass. With Leaves of Grass already printed — by a Brooklyn friend, at the poet’s own expense — Whitman had only to find a willing distributor who would root this uncommon book into the common soil of popular literature. He had...
It's amazing where you can end up when wandering the Web. Today I woke up at 3:30am. I had a drink of water, then lay back down. Normally I just go back to sleep. For some unknown reason I picked up my tablet and had a quick look online, reading a few blog posts from sites I follow. On James' Coffee Blog, I stumbled...

When I was young, I was a huge AC/DC fan. I started listening to them probably around the time I got my driver's license, maybe a year or so earlier, and I remember driving around in my Dad's tiny blue Ford Fiesta blaring AC/DC at full volume. I loved it, while everybody else probably thought I was a complete dork....
Years ago, I used to work as a tech blogger covering iOS how-tos for the iPhone 4 series. Apple iOS was a very restrictive system unlike Android, and the only way you could customize your iPhone beyond the limited native options was to "jailbreak" the phone, install something like Cydia (a marketplace for apps that...
I know I just mentioned the Google Search app, but I’m also in the process of disentangling myself from Google and Gmail after last week’s Google I/O revelations. On that note, this is an interesting, meandering essay by Ernie Smith at Tedium, reflecting on the enshittification of Google and the two-year anniversary...
Drama about the pricing of AI models, countless npm vulnerabilities and Google I/O that at this point should be rebranded to Google AI. This is a short summary of the past month in software. Most of the news from these categories I entirely ignore, so I prepared for you a list of super non-trendy resources from the...
This is probably just an oversight on my part, but for anybody who may not have noticed when using the Bear editor to upload images, they are converted and resized to the webp format. There appears to be some loss of quality and image resizing going on, which I completely understand why this occurs, but I wasn't...
Book Review: When There Are Wolves Again by E.J. Swift In this book, we follow the lives of two women, from roughly 2020-2070. When There Are Wolves Again by E.J. Swift isn’t so much science fiction; at least not in the sense of “exploring the galaxy in a spaceship”. Instead, we stay right here on planet earth, and...

Thought that after my post on summary distrust, I could share a list of what I read each week. I technically prefer to process and digest what I read into blog posts, but not everything makes it into one, and this is a way to document and keep them, and maybe give others some food for thought. This is not...
Aka, you can write anywhereI’m currently standing inside Glasgow’s beautiful Barrowland Ballroom, surrounded by some hundreds of strangers, waiting for Big Thief to take the stage. I’m the kind of person who usually needs ideal conditions to do certain things. Writing generally is one of those things. I need to be...
I love to write while I am walking around in the world. I keep a digital notebook in which I write down what I observe: sights, sounds, scents; emotions, hopes, dreams. The smile I see as two friends embrace each other in a hug as the person who has been waiting patiently at a table sees their friend walk in makes...
This is another minor release that fixes a bug in the export process that caused assets not being exported correctly. You may see some warnings when you run taylor export letting you know that you’re using a deprecated key in your taylor-config.json. The old values will continue to be supported for the foreseeable...
(image courtesy of @tp-h) a will to live is a heck of a powerful thing. it can drive us, carry us through the most inhospitable and desperate of circumstances. course through our veins in place of oxygen. fuel our pulsing, raging, wanting, healing and hurting bodies, when nourishment is beyond reach. fuel far from...
Currently watching Zhan Zhao Adventures but at turtle speed. It’s a wuxia, and that’s catnip for me but for some reason I am not binging it or watching it intently the way I did dramas like Fated Hearts or Ingenious One, which I just completed. The fights are stellar, the story solid, but it isn’t addictive like I...
I am tired of many things. Some of them have bothered me for years. Some are rather recent. Here's how I have dealt with all that. Minimizing. I try to minimize anything related to negative things in my life, until I can either nullify the whole thing from my life, or it is so insignificant, it doesn't bother me...
At the edge of the Lake Biwa Canal, looking at the Heian Jingu shrine's vermillion Grand Torii and Keiryu Bridge. In the distance is the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. 琵琶湖疏水のほとりから、平安神社の朱色の大きな鳥居と慶流橋を眺めている。遠くには京都市立京セラ美術館が見える。
Lovely sourdough toast for breakfast. The old girl knows there might be some crust going spare too - she isn't daft! Thanks for reading this post via RSS. RSS is ace, and so are you. ❤️ You can reply to this post by email, or leave a comment.
Our Prompt: AI Replacements On May 28, 2026, Sixth Tone published a report by He Qitong titled He Quit Baidu. But First He Had to Build an AI Version of Himself. You can think of Baidu as China’s internal answer to Google, with “Google” meaning the broader suite of Google products and services, not only the search...
End of May, I attended the TNG Big Tech Day (https://www.bigtechday.com/). TNG describes it as “a one-day conference on science and technology, with a focus on IT. The speakers often come from the field of information technology, but some also come from other scientific disciplines such as physics, mathematics, or...

A narrative account of the reasoning chain — how a remark about a physicist’s “second dial” became a theorem that no contentful verdict can be neutral, and why the path had the shape it did. Orientation This is the genesis document for three others: a paper on ground and cardinality in identity puzzles, the Seat...
Often, I choose writing over video because the silence on a hike is just priceless. This adventure brought lush green forests, a surprise fox (captured on video!), and a steep "sprint" to the summit that taught me to always check the map before ...

My WordPress Replacement: ZensicalIn the last few days, I’ve been experimenting with a new SSG (Zensical) as a replacement for my secondary site that’s still running WordPress—the CMS I learnt to create my first website. Once the migration is over, I won’t have to manage a dynamic website any more. Hurray, static...
Now, a caveat before I go on. There’s a common narrative on left-leaning US-dominated social media that there’s a concerted effort by Beijing to stamp out native languages. This interpretation is false and propaganda, and this writer is not in the mood to educate or argue with these believers right now, and as I...
2026-05-30Hello! A direct follow-up to yesterday's photograph. Taken on the same walk, in the same(-ish) weather.A bit farther away from the regular paved sidewalk, this clump of rounded leaves didn't capture my attention at first. I had paused there to dry the front of my camera lens (rubbing it with my shirt,...

This post was inspired by Juhis’ IndieWeb Carnival theme for May, A love letter. This is a love letter to creative spaces, community centres, libraries and anywhere that is welcoming to the big table full of slightly chaotic artists who might make a mess of their carpet from time to time. When I was a teenager one...
Another internet challenge! Joel is doing this (see Summer Game Challenge 2026) and tried to rope me into it too. As a rather casual gamer, I too have a handful of games that need completing. I didn’t bother looking at the official rules, but based on my work schedule I will give myself a deadline of before my first...
By: Rem Korteweg | Rating: 3/5I remember the whole Brexit debacle vividly. So I'm sad to read that sadly, there was no 4d chess going on, but the overflowing piles of hubris, stupidity, lack of strategic foresight and absolute populist nonsense was exactly as we experienced it. The author makes a good effort of...
No law says your archive has to be boring. You can nerd it up with stats, which I have done with my own archive. First, I figured out how to get Textpattern to automatically keep track of how many blog entries I made each year. I already knew how to do this for the grand total, so it was just a matter of making a...
Siguiendo la línea de Windows, Amazon quiere forzarte a comprar un nuevo dispositivo. Pero no te preocupes, a tu viejo Kindle le quedan tantas sesiones de lectura como tengas a bien disfrutar en él.
