New ideas cannot develop without silence. With constant stimulation to keep our mind busy, there is no growth inside of us. Our mind needs space and time to process new information. You have to be with yourself and let your mind wander to just take ideas further and further until a spark happens. Of course, you can...
presentation and workshop, april 16-17 2026, dublin city university On April 16-17, the five artists from SEED (Sensory Exchanges of Environmental Data) will present their research and planned artworks for the project at the SEED Knowledge Echange, Dublin. Tickets and timetable:...
No, I have not insinuated myself into a new show, creeping like predatory mold on an unwary Senator; The 1940s Radio Hour1 in 2014 was the last time I trod the boards and my tippy-tappers will not know their wooden kiss again until I can trick someone into letting me be Professor Harold Hill2. BUT I recently decided...
What have I been upto? Last week saw me attend the Newton-le-Willows beer festival on Thursday, and for only the second time since I started drinking again, I was hungover. This lead to me being very delicate on the Friday – thankfully I had a quiet Friday. But it was good see everybody again. I blew away the final...
The lady patroness of Michaelis, the ticket-of-leave apostle of humanitarian hopes, was one of the most influential and distinguished connections of the Assistant Commissioner’s wife, whom she called Annie, and treated still rather as a not very wise and utterly inexperienced young girl. But she had consented to...
Right next to the generic function to delete photos by going through them one by one, my camera has a specific version – Delete All With This Date: Below the actions to close the tab, and close all other tabs, Chrome has a specific version called Close Tabs To The Right: In After Effects, next to typical save...
Packed up the car with tiny Easter baskets to drop off to family and ended up staying a good part of the afternoon catching up, having lunch, and tasting limited edition Peeps (they were surprisingly good). + 4 photosCurrently Listening: Kazumi Totaka “Wii Sports Theme Song”Reply via email
When you make speed and “moving fast” the biggest priority on a project or in an organization, the first thing to breakdown is talking to each other. Talking takes time. Consensus is expensive and slow. In a pressurized environment there’s no time to schedule calls, get input from subject matter experts, or resolve...
April 2026. Lincoln. I’m not adding the Ritz to my extensive “2026 Pubs Visited” spreadsheet, as I didn’t even have a can of San Pellegrino, so terrified was I of needing a comfort break on the bus to Wragby in half an hour, and having to get off at the North Greetwell stop and never getting home again. This is what...
First of all, get familiar with some decent guidelines that exist since forever: XYProblem How To Ask Questions The Smart Way by ESR (Eric Steven Raymond) ArchWiki: Bug reporting guidelines What is different in 2026? Gen AI / LLMs / Coding agents, of course. Everything else stays the same. We don’t have to...
Podman is a drop-in replacement for Docker. I chose it because Justus suggested me to look into it while I was interviewing him for the DWeb blog, and other friends encouraged me to try it in multiple occasions. By learning more about it, I found its advantages and its architecture to be very interesting, while...
(Not a post about the wave of warehouse fires but also those) Dude you know what’s cool as hell? When you write a blog post detailing a technical issue you’re having and while listing out everything you’ve tried, you get a weird idea to try something completely random on a whim and it turns out that’s the thing that...
One of my favorite things about the small web is it's ability to casually change your life a little bit for the better. Not in some dramatic, TED Talk, "this changed everything" kind of way. I mean in the older, quieter internet sense. Somebody mentions a thing they like. You highlight text and paste it into Albert...
Grandmother's Death Anniversary and Tomb Sweeping Permalink to section 'Grandmother's Death Anniversary and Tomb Sweeping' # We had two busy weekends in a row, due to Qingming Festival and my paternal grandmother's death anniversary. Qingming Festival 2026 took place on April 5, but it coincided with my...
The internet known within China is a very different internet to the one known by the world at large. It is censored, regulated and structured quite differently. It is controlled and managed, rather than organic and sprawling. From the outside looking in, it feels like an entirely different beast, and to begin to...
April 13, 2026 The Guardian If you are one of Meta’s almost 79,000 employees and cannot get hold of the boss, do not worry. The owner of Facebook and Instagram is reportedly working on an AI version of Mark Zuckerberg who can answer all your queries. The AI clone of Zuckerberg, Meta’s founder and chief executive, is...
One of the things that my career break has taught me is that I’m not yet ready to retire. This is good because the kids still need educating and that still needs financing. I also still enjoy playing with computers, much as I did when Dad first brought home a Philips G7000 and then a Commodore 16 with a spiral-bound...
Note / Comment (click to expand) The text below is a transcript of the narration from a video shown at the exhibition "Shinji Ohmaki: Interface of Being", entitled "Rustle of Existence." The video was projected at a very wide screen and, aside from the narration, featured a lot of long, sustained camera shots of...
Preface: For a hundred years now devotees of Sherlock Holmes have been playing the Great Game, a hermeneutical exercise based on the premise that the Holmes stories are not fiction but rather absolutely reliable historical records. Therefore any inconsistencies in the stories must have an explanation, however...
Our group at the Chollas Reservoir hike This February, I attended my first San Diego Bird Festival. This was only the second bird festival I’ve attended after Wings Over Water 2025. Partially to reduce the cost, but also to contribute, I decided to be a festival volunteer. I started Wednesday evening with the...
L is for Lazy Every now and then I remember a conversation I had with an friend and old coworker. Where, at the time, I was going on about some framework or programming thing. He had mentioned that not only he didn’t like programming but that he was lazy. In that he found a way for a method to work and yeah, that...
Everyone, I’m so, so sorry to report that the zombocalypse is upon us. Some domain squatter got ahold of zombo.com in February. I just noticed this today. Pour one out for another lost relic of the ’90s web. According to Wikipedia: As of February 7, 2026, the domain was put up for sale. The author claims it was...
Lisbeth is recovering in a hospital and awaiting trial for three murders when she is released. Mikael must prove her innocence, but Lisbeth must be willing to share the details of her sordid experiences with the court. The follow-up of the The Girl Who Played with Fire, it closes the story properly and gives us...
When you start a new project, it feels nice that everything lives in a single main.go file. When things start to grow, you split things into multiple files. We will add tests later, right? Requirements change, someone joins the team, and in the meantime, you swapped SQLite for Postgres. In no time, your pedantically...
“To be a Flower is profound Responsibility,” Emily Dickinson wrote. From the moment she pressed the first wildflower into her astonishing teenage herbarium until the moment Susan pinned a violet to her alabaster chest in the casket, she filled her poems with flowers and made of them a lexicon of feeling, part code...
2026-04-13Hello! I said I would go on a screen detox, but that didn't work out.Hermitcraft, which I consider to be an all-ages TV show free on YouTube themed around Minecraft, has hosted their annual charity event. They've raised more than $1,100,000 USD, breaking previous records. It's wonderfully chaotic and...
Big news this week! The Media Guide disappeared a bit (again) there for awhile, but for good reason. We are officially launching The Media Guide web app for subscribers at the [+] and Patron tiers. This newsletter will continue being sent for folks that want it, but if you are more interested in an app-like...
I spent the weekend thinking about various and sundry warehouse fires. And Luigi Mangione. And universal healthcare. And "all you had to do was pay us enough to live." The Epstein class does not understand how reasonable our terms are. The vast majority of people agitating for change aren't asking for a fundamental...
Minor Blog Extensions First I added asciinema support to better show some console stuff. ASCIInema allows to record a terminal session in text and replay it as text. So no wasteful GIF or blurry MP4 for just text. You can see the first use of it in this blog in my FZF SSH Parser Article. Then inspired by Naty I also...
I had a thought, actually while reading Shubham Bose’s The 49MB Web Page, about my use of RSS. The most radical thing you can do is refuse to be extracted. Close the tab. Use RSS. Let the bounce rate speak for itself. These are vanity metrics until enough people stop vanishing into them and then suddenly they become...
A while ago, I contacted Sindal Flight Club to inquire about its activities and perhaps joining it. I was about to give up hope of hearing back from them when, out of the blue, I got a reply thanking me for my interest and inviting me to an open house event on Sunday, April 12. The invitation promised an enticing...
I recently read Feminism or death by Francoise d'Eaubonne and I was underwhelmed.
I went full speed ahead this week. The vibe Builder mode from start to finish. This week felt like creative momentum, shipping things I am genuinely proud of, and seeing several ideas finally become real. At the same time, getting sick in the middle of it all was a good reminder that even the most productive weeks...
I just grabbed and opened up the MacBook Air and met this: First time I've ever seen this and I've been using Ghostty for quite a while now. To be fair, the MacBook did update to 26.4.1 overnight and has tried to get back to the state it was in before the restart, so I imagine that's the cause. But I've never seen...
Follow up on What I Want From Games, with inspiration from the video The 1996 Strategy Game No One Could Play - Until Now (Wages of War) I have realized what it is! The thing that makes or breaks a game for me is that the game assigns you a role, and gives you the means to act withing that role. I have always...
The International Society for Moral Psychology (ISMP) is a new association that aims to be an “interdisciplinary and international home for moral psychology, aimed at fostering deeper engagement across traditions, methodologies, and cultural contexts.” An announcement from the association states that ISMP is...
A mission post by Captain Amelia Waterhouse, Lieutenant JG Sean Morgan Mission - Let's Do The Timeloop Again "Fuck. How many times did you stick me with singing Sonny's part in I Got You Babe?" Amelia picked up her plush turtle with the orange mask from next to her on the couch and let it fly in Sean's direction as...
When my Kobo Libra 2 started to show signs of failing, I looked at getting a replacement. I initially thought I would go for a Kobo colour but then I changed my mind. I wanted to go for something different, smaller, easier to load any book on and eventually went with the Pocketbook Verse Pro. I found a really good...
For decades the internet has been a place to make your voice heard, and the cornerstone for most of that time has been blogs. Even in the rise and fall of social media, blogs continue to have their place in the internet. RSS, as old as it sounds, has also been proven to help connect and keep up with people and their...
Ireland pays a select group of artists a basic income for a three year period, an initiative the Irish government claims is a world first. At present, the weekly value of the payment equates to about five-hundred-and-forty Australian dollars. You’d be hard pressed to live on that sort of money in Australia, but it’s...
Across gender lines, a vast amount of interior life—the running commentary of thought, the texture of daily experience, the actual content of emotional processing—remains systematically unexpressed. Contemporary social life lacks strong containers for genuine disclosure, so most interior life stays private even...
