With winter fading, I seized a last chance for snowshoeing - no risks, no steep climbs, just deep snow and quiet trails. What started as a short walk turned into five hours of joy: untouched powder, frozen forests, and the simple thrill of moving upward. Sometimes, the best adventures are the ones you almost miss.
Read on the website: Binary Lambda Calculus is a really alluring idea. But it’s also hard to grasp and use! Here’s my list of complaints and obstacles to using BLC.

The new (to me at least) aggregator of blog posts aptly and cleverly titled Blogosphere, is the creation of engineer and writer Ramkarthik Krishnamurthy: But it’s really about something bigger: rebuilding a thriving community of independent writers and thinkers who share their thoughts freely, without waiting for an...
We did a leisurely walk through Sydney’s city center. We will probably do one more walk. But this one was mostly around Uma’s need to walk in the park and see water, and that’s what we mostly did. Diggy Doos Coffee As soon as we landed in the center, we looked for a good coffee place, and found Diggy Doo’s Coffee on...

Evie Fae: I’ve had trouble with email addresses visible on the public web getting snatched by bots and peppered with endless spam […] It turns out that most spam bots aren’t all that sophisticated, and if you wanted to write something on your page like: Send an email to me at evie[DOT]fae[AT]mydomain[DOT]com then...
Simon Willison wrote about how he vibe coded his dream presentation app for macOS. I also took a stab at vibe coding my dream app: an RSS reader. To clarify: Reeder is my dream RSS app and it already exists, so I guess you could say my dreams have already come true? But I’ve kind of always wanted to try an app where...

'Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say,...
This blog post format has no standards. Here are some nice things I’ve been holding onto in the form of open tabs or things added to bookmarks for slightly too long. Blogs get philosophical “TO THE GREATER GLORY OF GOD” by ArtLung. The phrase that titles this post “to the greater glory of god” is something that...
I'm trying out the weeknotes format for the first time! I love reading the weeknotes on other blogs, so I thought I'd give it a try. General happeningsWeather was shitty all week: Gray and rainy throughout, except for Friday and Sunday. I also didn't feel super good health-wise, but getting more sleep helped. The...
Quoted Ad Blocker Usage and Demographic Statistics in 2026 by Backlinko Team (backlinko.com) Indonesia has the highest national ad-blocker penetration rate (40.1%) [according to GWI]. I came across an article on Backlinko featuring statistics about worldwide ad blocker usage. Different surveys noted in the article...
This is one of the simplest but also most impactful productivity tips I introduced into my daily life. It’s been exceptionally helpful, especially since I’m studying and working from home a lot. An environment where the lines between work and leisure often blur. It’s called the “daily shutdown ritual” and has been...
Published by AHE. on 06th April 2026 Louis released a new documentary and responses have been mixed. Inside the Manosphere is the new documentary from Louis Theroux. Whilst I think the hype around its release was well deserved, and the film does a lot of things right, it seems to be a victim of its own subject...
I shared a LinkedIn post with that title last week. I’m going to share what I wrote there, but I’m going to ask a second question after that, which I may or may not share with the LinkedIn crowd later. If you’re thinking “but I thought you were an AI skeptic!”, hold on. Okay? Okay, here’s the post: First and...
Yesterday’s post included some behind-the-scenes calculations that I figured were worth talking about. They were all done in Mathematica, and here’s the notebook I used: The first calculation works out the days of the vernal equinox in every year from 1961 through 2026. The key function for this is FindAstroEvent, a...
I wake up slightly later than planned in a strange but incredibly comfortable bed, in a house I slipped into the night before. Well, "slipped into" might be too dramatic. I walked in through the front door, looked the owners straight in the eyes, and they seemed perfectly fine with my presence. I grab an apple and...
[ The stream will be recorded. You can watch it later. ] Tonight I will work on my denote package. There is a feature branch I implemented this morning and am now ready to continue refining the code. The immediate goals: Update unit tests that are still calling deprecated functions. Write new tests, starting with...
Every Easter in SF the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence hold a Hunky Jesus contest in Dolores Park. Eryn and I went today: Cheez-Its Christ, the runner up today, was amazing. The winner this year was Renewable Jesus, who had a cross that rotated like a windmill. What can I say? The people of this city love the...
I lost years of photos. Not to a hard drive crash or a fire or a ransomware attack. I lost them to my own mistakes and to friction. The migration chainMy photo storage has been through a lot of migrations and each one was a chance to lose something. It started with Apple Aperture and a USB hard drive over 15 years...
Project Hail Mary is the among the best movies about science and space and aliens and t-shirts I've ever seen. ⊕Currently Listening: Ike & Tina Turner “Glory, Glory”Reply via email
March 2026. Norton. North Yorkshire.. Not THAT Norton, Dave If you include virtually contiguous (love that word) Norton as well as Malton the population is 12,275, I read that somewhere. Norton is very much Malton’s hidden away ugly nephew, even though it’s somehow bigger, and has fewer pubs. I head there now, via...
30th March - 5th April The clocks did that thing they do each Spring but I didn't really notice. The wall clock in the bedroom had needed a new battery for about a week, my phone updated automatically, weirdly my wristwatch died at 00:55, and the clock on the oven hasn't worked for months since a powercut reset it...
2026-04-05Hello! I wonder if I should make this the wallpaper to my laptop; I've been using the sunset wallpaper for almost a year now. If I ever share my desktop screen to classmates and friends, I'm sure to get a reaction. All the better.I had more than five really cool photos lined up this week, but they all got...
I've been ignoring my duties a bit here as I've been building something new that's in a bit of a soft launch now. It's a suite of web apps I've developed partly to help me organize different things, partly as an experiment. I think they are pretty cool though and you can check 'em out here.Mindlessly Massive March...
War is an ism — nationalism, dogmatism, capitalism — paid for by an is: the living beingness of human beings made a sacrificial offering to an ideology so powerful it has quelled the two things that make us most human: compassion and critical thinking. “Those people who see clearly the necessity of changed thinking...
What came to your mind when you read “hash functions” in the title? If you’re pragmatic, you probably remembered SHA-256 or MD5. Those are cryptographic hash functions, and they work fast and well for arbitrary inputs, even if they are supplied by malicious actors. Or at least they’re designed to. That’s the exact...
Writing web applications in 2026 I've been creating web pages for a long time. I started with Microsoft Frontpage, graduated to plain HTML (think table layouts, font color, limited css) and then when PHP v3 dropped I started building web applications. These applications were all server rendered, and when Google...
Welcome to the 91st issue of De Programmatica Ipsum, about Entertainment. In this edition: Graham reviews the beautiful art taking place in the demoscene. Adrian argues that we are just blinded by entertainment. In our Vidéothèque section, we learn about the demoscene thanks to L33T GUY, and then we watch the first...
I’ve recently subscribed to Sky Stream Ultimate. The “puck” arrived yesterday and I’ve spent just under 24 hours with it. My verdict is in: I do not like this. The channel offerings are good and so are the bundled apps which come along with my Ultimate package. I get Netflix with ads, HBO Max with ads, Discovery+...
For eight years, I’ve wanted a high-quality set of devtools for working with SQLite. Given how important SQLite is to the industry1, I’ve long been puzzled that no one has invested in building a really good developer experience for it2. A couple of weeks ago, after ~250 hours of effort over three months3 on...
I mentioned last year about the mixtapes my brother used to make. Well, just the other week, my mom mentioned that she still had a bunch of her tapes and that my brother’s mixtapes might be in amongst them and sure enough, I found the very tape that I remember most. Named aptly, A Whole Bunch of Good Songs Vol 2. I...
When I first started writing blogmore.el it was just going to be a handful of commands that let me spin up a new blog post, and insert the odd link here and there when needed. Initially it only handled a single blog, and everything it did was based around how I lay my personal blog out, and was also very much geared...
I’m 57 and currently hooked on stickers, and AI isn’t entirely innocent in this, combined with a bit of a guilty conscience - but it’s a lot of fun. I recently “retired” my old business laptop after just two short years, with a battery life of 28 minutes after a full charge, and somehow I felt sorry, because the...
Today during the easter service I was reminded of the promise of new life. Our church has a tradition of sharing flowers which also reminded me of this ranunculus bulb that has flowered in the garden we planted after Bailey died. The beautiful growth that can come out of pain doesn’t take away the pain or justify...
T. S. Eliot expounds; Lord David Cecil wears a poker face. Public domain photograph taken by Lady Ottoline Morrell via Wikimedia Commons. Maybe it’s inevitable, when you read a lot of poetry criticism, to come across discussions of T. S. Eliot somewhere in the mix. And Hugh Kenner’s and Guy Davenport’s delicious...
It was a nice surprise to discover that Shottr can replace two apps! I’m slowly working my way through the list of the (Mac-only) Setapp apps I’ve used for years, looking for free or one-time purchase alternatives. Three apps I’ve started testing are Maccy (clipboard manager), Textshot (OCR), and Shottr...
- Estonian – Ron"> Since the weather outside is still veeeery cold for April, I thought instead of chasing it away, we should embrace it. So we’re putting our winter hats on, we’re grabbing our mittens and we go to Estonia! (There are 4ºC in Tallinn at the moment). But we travel only digitally, to meet Ron and his...
This blog wouldn’t exist if not for Manuel Moreale. I don’t remember how i stumbled upon his blog, but i remember being crestfallen that my “the homepage is the latest article” idea wasn’t as original as i thought. The more i read him, though, the more i began to feel that weird one-sided kinship you only get with...
This is a rough reverse-chronological record of the changes in (or “evolution of”) my approach to hosting and system administration, both for myself and communally. YunoHost Nextcloud bare installation A huge shout-out to my friend Claudio, who helped me understand and perform the most tricky passages. deGooglization
"Altra Donzella" (Another young woman) from the Gli abiti de veneziani (1754) by Giovanni Grevembroch, translated by René Seindal.
3:55 my alarms start going off. I forgot to switch them off for Easter, as our store is actually closed today. Typically I'm walking in the door at just after 6 on Sundays. But instead of simply turning my alarm off and sleeping longer, I decided to get up. I fed the cats and went to start some coffee. To my dismay,...
Well, here I am on Easter Sunday, past the first quarter of the year. From my writing/publishing perspective, I’ve made my major goal, which was to finish editing and entering beta feedback/rewrites on The Demon’s Peace and submitting it to the editor for more editing! It’s in decent shape, and I’m on track for...
A few weeks ago I wrote about RSS, talking about Terry Godier’s posts and arguing about the need for a different experience with reading feeds. My initial thought was that his new RSS client, Current, was incapable of doing what Fraidycat does — show the original website instead of a sanitised read mode that strips...
there’s a gnawing, familiar feeling bubbling inside of me. when the weather changes,–I feel like a bunny rabbit in a somewhat frenzy. unable to sleep, just sort of stirring around. for almost 7-ish days, what feels like a life-time, every year–like clockwork, it rains non-stop without letting up. A gift and curse it...
You might have seen this, one of the strangest and most primitive experiences in macOS, where you’re asked to press keys next to left Shift and right Shift, whatever they might be. Perhaps I can explain. There are three main international keyboard layout variants in common use: American (ANSI, with a horizontal...
I have been visiting some websites out of habit that don’t make me feel great, so I started looking for website blocker apps. In the process of doing so, an easier solution came to mind - editing the /etc/hosts file. I opened /etc/hosts, and set the IP address for the domain I want to block (LinkedIn in this case)...
