Mon Dec 15
It’s Blogvent, day 16, where I blog daily in December! It is hard coming up with blog topics. Especially when I’m trying to post every single day. I often just start writing, sometimes on my laptop, sometimes on my Micro Journal, and a topic will just… form. This post literally started as: I have no idea what to...
The plot device is an organism with strange adaptations which enable it to consume stars. There is a surprising amount of science involved, but it is delivered so nonchalantly that even if you weren’t interested in any of the geeky bits you’d have a great time. It checks all the boxes for me:☑️ Funny☑️ SPACEI was...
As part of the current development cycle of Denote, I am refining the file prompt. It now has the following: Sorting: Files are sorted by last modified. Grouping: Files are organised by type (remember that the Denote file-naming scheme can be applied to any file—I do so for videos, pictures, PDFs, …). Affixating:...
Also known as: bonus 2025 Sketchbook Highlights. Recently I’ve been on a classic anime hunt. This led me to Outlaw Star, it often played in proximity to Cowboy Bebop on Toonami in the UK but I never really got into it at the time. It’s definitely one those shows that suffers from changes in art style between...

When I am chatting about a website with friends, sometimes I forget the name of the website. I remember what the site is about, and often remember visual details about the site, too. A few months ago, I described a website that aggregated blogs and also mentioned it had a yellow background. I could remember the...
Dorothy L. Sayers’s sequence of twelve radio plays, The Man Born to be King, happened because the BBC asked her to put the life of Christ, distilled from the Gospels, in dramatic form. But Sayers was not content simply to string together episodes: she wanted to make something thematically coherent and aesthetically...
This web site is now available as a Kirby template / starter kit. Files can be downloaded either here or directly at Github. Why release it as a template? Learn to ship Finishing something that isn't a client project has always been a hurdle for me. Since it's not paid work, it tends to end up last in the priority...
I knew that we had three consecutive Supermoons from October-December (see Newsletter Leaf Journal 253). I did not however remember the date of the recent December “Cold Supermoon” off the top of my head. I found the date in an article by Renee Straker for The Weather Channel. In that article, I learned a bonus...
TheWrapThis might come across as insensitive… but what on earth did Charlie Kirk do in 2025 to deserve Person of the Year? Besides getting shot… If getting assasinated is the requirement, I’d like to nominate Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman, and their spouses, Mark and Yvette.
This is inside my Sony Alpha camera: a teensy too technical, or maybe slightly-lost-in-translation-from-Japanese message. I love it. It has personality without trying to be cute. #writing
Response to https://blog.avas.space/next-christmas/ I just moved from my parents, and I fully relate to how much of the christmas vibe my parents promoted. Now it's up to me, next year...
Today, 10 years ago, I had my first encounter with Emacs, and that day definitely changed the way I work with computers—if not my entire life. I remember that day so clearly because it was the day after the very first meeting of the "Warpzonista Coding Club." At that time, the Warpzone was my local hackerspace, and...
I did a bit of drawing and painting when I was in school. I loved it, but kind of lost it when I reached college. I never got to learn it, though I always wanted to. Recently, when Uma started playing with colors, I thought about to learning watercoloring just for fun. This week, I started learning by doing it. Of...
The Phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached. When it came near him, Scrooge bent down upon his knee; for in the very air through which this Spirit moved it seemed to scatter gloom and mystery. It was shrouded in a deep black garment, which concealed its head, its face, its form, and left nothing of it visible,...
I've picked up reading again! I was buying books for a Christmas gift and I saw the shiny beautiful rows of books in the store. I got painfully reminded that last time when I tried to read a scientific book I have and immediately repeat what I just read, I was struggling heavily. So I chatted with a lovely shop...

Sleep review, December 14th to December 15th 2025: (Note to self: Don’t only write these when something was wrong.)What a weird one. I woke up three times from strange nightmares. This morning I still feel well rested. I don’t understand. 🤷🏻♂️/10 Reply by email
On the web, it’s easy to take line breaks for granted. We get them for free between our headings, paragraphs, list items, <div> elements and more. We display them as-is in our code snippets thanks to <pre>. And most magically of all, our browsers insert breaks automatically where lines of text (or other text-like...
We’re racing to build artificial intelligence that’s smarter than us. The hope is that AI could solve climate change, cure diseases, or transform society. But most conversations about AI safety focus on the wrong question. The usual worry goes like this: What if we create a super‑smart AI that decides to pursue its...
The release of NetNewsWire 1.0 in February 2003, one of the first popular RSS Readers. So far in my history of blogging and RSS, we've seen how weblogs emerged in 1999 as a new form of personal journal, began to link to each other in 2000 via blogrolls, turned serious in 2001 with "warblogs," and then became an...
So the day is finally here -- Buried Memories, the fourth book in the Mia Graves Saga, is now officially out! I posted the official blurb on pre-order announcement a few months ago, but the book's premise is basically "what if you were in a small town where people kept disappearing, but you were the only one who...
Last week was a mixed bag, leaning heavier on the rough stuff than the wins. But that’s how it goes sometimes. You take the hits, appreciate the bright spots where you can, and keep moving forward. So I’m going to knock out the bad first, then end on the good. The Bad 😞 Early in the week, my right ear started...
December 2025. Folkestone. Kent. Mrs RM is planning a series of posts on the Kent coast, which by her definition starts at Rochester and skips Gillingham on the way to Whitstable and beyond. Gravesend will have something to say about that. “We should go to Folkestone, only an hour.” I said. “You won’t recognise it“....
My introduction to the author, and I blame Caz’s review of the prequel novella for my adding yet another author with a large backlist to my TBR cordillera of doom.. Beware: violent homophobia as part of worldbuilding; some violence and gore on page; emotional child abuse and implied sexual child sexual abuse as part...

I have published many articles featuring my photos of inflatable decorations around Brooklyn. Many of these inflatable decorations have been holiday-themed. Prior to my publishing this post, our holiday collection included Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day, and...

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has flagged more restrictions on gun ownership. At present, to legally possess a gun, a person must, among other things, be “fit and proper”, have a genuine reason for ownership, belong to a gun club, and undertake to store the weapons securely. Chris Minns, the Premier of...

Day 46: What is your all-time favorite story to tell from all the jobs you’ve held? The one story that I like to tell was when I was working for Sony Online Entertainment. They were the kewl kids that worked on EverQuest and EverQuest 2. It was a really big deal for me, even though I was only working for the...
