I read a Basketball Network report in Arkansas college basketball coach John Calipari complaining about the new Name, Image, and Likenesses (“NIL”) rules in college sports leading to a trend in older college basketball players. Mr. Calipari had great success in the late 2000s and early 2010s at Memphis and Kentucky...
This blog is built on 11ty, and I use Decap CMS to update it (editing code directly gets old reeeeal quick). I don't love image management in Decap, though, and I always wanted a better and quicker solution for that. So I made my own. My requirements were the following: I want a standalone solution for image hosting...

When did analytic philosophy begin? Many who ask that question answer: 1879, the year Gottlob Frege’s Begriffsschrift was published. But how did Frege, a math professor whose studies originally focused on geometry, do it? Is it true that “Frege created logic and analytic philosophy out of nothing”? That’s how Jens...
An American startup called Operation Bluebird is hoping to take ownership of the defunct Twitter name, the term “tweet”, and famous blue bird logo, and relaunch Twitter anew. Operation Bluebird’s backers believe the old micro-blogging service can be restored to its former glory, and revive the “town square” the old...

What do you remember being a big deal to adults during your childhood or teenaged years? This is a tough prompt. I think as kids we are so in our own world, that understanding what is a ‘big deal’ can be a little hard to comprehend. I remember, my parents stressing and telling me why, but those dots didn’t always...
I want the ability to easily share tagged links to this website, inspired by the blogrolls of yore (shoutout to sethmlarson). This is a static hugo site, though. I have no interest in creating a commit just to make new links appear. Linkding, my bookmark manager Incidentally, I recently spun up a linkding instance...
This is a post for this month Bearblog Carnaval hosted by Xaya :) Thinking about what to write for this post I released I haven't watched much lavender media. I do want to find good queer media of course, so I'm interested to check out others post on this Bearblog Carnaval! Still I have some media that I enjoyed...
December 2025. Rye Harbour. Back in Rye from Waterbeach last Sunday, stunned at the news that Peter had died, I spent the next day writing about Mudgie and reading tributes to the man. Mrs RM had enjoyed his company on his last Proper Day Out in Atherstone and was equally shocked. Everyone seemed to be heading out...
One of my birthday presents, and a very welcome one, was Richard Holmes's The Boundless Deep, the first of a projected two-volume biography of Tennyson. I've just started reading it, and am enjoying it hugely. I've long been fascinated by the early life of Tennyson, partly because of his connection to a county I...

I can't believe my eyes I must be dreaming, wake up, Bob, this price is fair What's this? That's how I bought Guilty Gear -STRIVE-. This is my...
For the past five years or so, my home server has been a Dell office PC I found at a thrift store for $5 during my student days. It’s served me incredibly well over the years. Between hosting Jellyfin, Nextcloud, and (at one point) Minecraft, there’s no way I haven’t gotten my money’s worth out of it. But I also...
We've made it! The North Pole has been decorated and Advent of Code 2025 is finished. But not before telling you something about what feels like the most dirty solution for a puzzle ever. Check out my full solution for day 12 at GitHub. Part oneToday, we need to place presents under the tree, as you do when it's...
My predictions! With a little humor. Take it with a grain of salt, only did this for fun as a little creative exercise, but maybe you agree or wanna write your own? in: Textures and color becoming big after our years-long focus on very smooth slabs and muted surfaces. I think Pantone is so wrong for picking a white...
How I’m spending my time these days and other things I’m thinking about I’ve been excitedly using my 2026 planner (a Hobonichi Weeks, which technically starts in December 2025). My desire to use a physical planner ebbs and flows throughout the year. I’m currently really into it, on account of the whole shiny new...

Thoughts on Technological Purity 2025-12-12 “Everything should be running on OpenBSD. My desktop, router, web server, and even minor local services should all be built on top of the great Pufferfish BSD.” I told myself this “mantra” not too long ago, after diving head-first into the wonderful world of BSDs. The...
For a lot of different reasons, I love the internet. I love it because it connects me to people I wouldn't otherwise get to know, because it gives me access to all kinds of information, because it lets me share my thoughts and creations with a wider audience, and because it entertains me in countless ways. But for...
"Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl Not a Christmas song. Sorry, not sorry. Absolute belter of a track though. Mighty. Thanks for reading this post via RSS! Let me know your thoughts by sending me an email: rss@thomasrigby.com.
I'm a grateful recipient of these classic crayons and think the best way to appreciate them is to use them.Currently Listening: GOON “Pink and Orange”Reply via email
Why This Exists If you’re reading this, you’ve probably encountered something created using MCK and wondered why it looks different from typical AI output. Or you want AI to help you think better instead of just producing smooth-sounding synthesis. This guide explains what MCK does, why it works, and how to use it....
After seeing this news, I have spent an unusual amount of my week thinking and reading about Times New Roman. 1 In an ocean of opinions, mine probably won’t register, but I think the Times New Roman typeface is, by itself, fine. It looks OK. It can even look good in some contexts. The problem with it is not really...
This package provides a global minor mode to increase the spacing/padding of Emacs windows and frames. The idea is to make editing and reading feel more comfortable. Enable the mode with M-x spacious-padding-mode. Adjust the exact spacing values by modifying the user option spacious-padding-widths. Package name (GNU...
This Christmas I just got from my partner a brand new, still sealed, Sun Ray 2. Basically the best gift I ever got. Period. The Ray is a thin client that connects to a remote Sun server. I already ordered a Sun Fire, but until it arrives, I decided to poke the little thing and see what makes it tick! After powering...
These boats travel up and down the river, offering food and drinks to passengers cruising the river in flat bottomed yakatabune boats. I've photographed them many times before, but the stark contrast of bright early morning sunlight against the deep shadows of the rest of the river made this special....
It’s been a good week. I got lots of work done. I am still lagging on some tasks due to dependencies, but I am almost there. I should be on track before Christmas. Also, I have been able to do two workouts at Stairs (P.T.), one generic session at Gold’s, and one pickleball session this week. Not bad, no? Uma at the...

It’s Blogvent, day 13, where I blog daily in December! I don’t mean to make this a hardcore hot take, but… vibe coding is boring. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been trying it out, and it can be fairly effective. It’s innovative. I started my app PocketCal with AI and it worked pretty well, in addition to some personal...
To tell the story of your life would take another life of equal length. There is no such thing as a true story because every story, to be told, must leave out something. And every something left out matters. It’s all the somethings that lead us to one point and then another; it’s all the somethings that merge into...
These sticks appear to be made of masala hand-rolled onto a rather thick bamboo splint. The scent on the stick is fairly muted for an Indian-style stick. This usually indicates more of a reliance on whole-botanicals rather than oils and other concentrates. In the burn, the benzoin is very prominent, revealing a bit...
Joan Westenberg wrote a thought-provoking article talking about how they believe that connoisseurship makes one "worse off". I think Westenberg has identified a valid critique of connoisseurship but broadened it's application beyond what I find reasonable. One thing I will absolutely agree with is the idea that a...

I just left an online community I've been participating in for the last five years. It started out on Slack at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic in late 2020 and later moved to Discord. I've been considering leaving for quite some time, but after an unpleasant interaction this morning it felt like the right...
Once again repurposing the corporate webs ideas as my own. Here is MY 2025 wrapped, according to my opinion. Minor editorial note, these are the things I liked this year, not neccessarily the best things which came out this year. Okay to the list; 1 Album Creeper - Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death I have had this...
The title is enough explanation, what game would I bring with me if I had to stay in a deserted island? All of this under the assumption that all the hardware and peripherals required, magically work for the indefinite amount of time I’ll be stranded in the middle of nowhere. Except for internet. But well, I just...
The ebike has been working great! But it’s gotten super rainy, and it’s not always great to ride in this weather. Also having an empty carport has turned my house into a theft target, and I’ve been locked in a battle with a dude who is absolutely determined to steal the bike at this point. One of my ideals had been to...
Keep your face always toward the sunshine—and shadows will fall behind you. - Walt Whitman I have a four-year old nephew that I watch from time to time. One of my duties is to pick him up from preschool. Until recently, he had been riding in a rear facing car seat, but he has now switched to a seat that faces...

Back in 2017 I wrote about a technique for creating closures in C using JIT-compiled wrapper. It’s neat, though rarely necessary in real programs, so I don’t think about it often. I applied it to qsort, which sadly accepts no context pointer. More practical would be working around insufficient custom allocator...
