Carmen Machi,...
Yes yes. I know, I know. Did the previous blog design need anything? Was any of it that bad? Well just like a marriage, familiarity breeds contempt and the rough edges started to grate. Although unlike a marriage I have complete control to fix all the things without negotiation! Let’s dive in. GrievancesThe previous...
1st December - 7th December There's no real idea of "winding down for Christmas" where I work. Clients release budget and work ramps up towards pre-break deliverables. This is the long way of saying I've been busy! I had my annual review; good feedback from my peers. I am skirting the fine line between "invaluable"...
On Mastodon, I just came across “I Went All-In on AI. The MIT Study Is Right.” from Josh Anderson. He spent three months building a product using only AI-generated code. The result? A working product, but also a dangerous realization: He no longer fully understood his own creation. When a small change was needed, he...
If you’re running JavaScript on a server, how do you import a module? Traditionally, imports looked like this, with CommonJS: const axios = require('axios'); But now they look like this with ECMAScript Modules: import axios from 'axios'; // Or, less often, dynamically: const axios = await import('axios'); However,...
The November 2025 release of CAP heralded a beta version of Status-Transition Flows, moving us up yet another gear in the journey towards declarative nirvana. Background I wanted to try out this new significant feature, one which embodies and celebrates one of the key reasons to use CAP - the code is in the...
.new - Google RegistryBrowse the full list of .new shortcuts available today from Adobe, Spotify, and many more.Whats.NewI have long been a frequent user of "docs.new" to quickly create new Google Docs. TIL that there are far more '.new' style "action domains" that work in this way. This list of all of the .new...
After reviewing the Mangmi Air X, I got curious about how the firmware updates worked. Mangmi have been pushing updates fairly regularly, which is great to see on a budget device. Officially they release full update packages via Google Drive links, but those have a tendency to disappear over time. I wanted to access...
Video: https://youtu.be/2Pkwj5ksAi4?si=w1ejepeueVEjmCNUNo Bolts Left BehindI’ve been having a blast watching this series. I’m not much of a car guy, but I still get into these types of videos from time to time.
Special days...
As you may have noticed by my propensity for footnotes sidenotes I love asides. Likewise there are a lot of small things I come across that either aren't meaty enough for a full post, or trend so narrowly technical that I feel hesitant about broadcasting (a reticence my college self did not share, just look at my...
An absolutely eviscerating 18-minute walkthrough of Apple Music for macOS Catalina, from a few years ago. More funny than anything else, but a reminder to test the “boring” edges of your app – like a state with a lapsed subscription, or coming back after a few months. There’s no way to drag and drop. […] If I want...
Table of Contents Introduction Revolutionary Notes Implementation Introduction After initially starting to use Emacs back in high school merely for programming, I naturally began to use it for other tasks such as document preparation and note-taking. This introduced me to the surprisingly large overlap between Emacs...

December has arrived, quietly. It often rains, at times windy. I put almost everything on hold, and the resulting calm is something to cherish. November has been silent, for the most part, with a lot of working from home due to health issues. Rewatching old TV shows at night, reading blog post and long articles,...
With the arrival of Git 3.0 expected sometime in 2026, now is the time to start thinking about and preparing for the future. The below details how to migrate a SHA1 Git repository to a SHA256 repository. Create a new SHA256 repository: git init new256 -b main --object-format=sha256 Navigate to the new SHA256...
Those who work with me know for sure of two important points: I despise LLMs. I don’t think they should replace or even try to replace people. I am a big fan of well-written RFCs and specifications. The first point is not a surprise; being a part of this industry before the advent of LLMs gave me enough resources to...
Pockethernet 2: Hands-On Test of the Revived Network Tester Some years ago, at a event, I could try the original Pockethernet V1. At this time I owned a bigger Tester with display, mostly not with me because to heavy for every day carry. The Pocketethernet looked like a interesting0 small tester for cables and...
The search engine recently exposed a fair number of new tools for custom filtering to the API consumers and users of the new UI. This was originally going to be an incredibly chaotic update, both annuncing the new features and doing a technical walkthrough of the changes but that ambition turned out a bit too...
Craig Sunter from Manchester, UK. CC BY 2.0 via Wikimedia Commons For a number of reasons, I’ve been rereading a few books. It’s been enjoyable, rediscovering turns of phrase and plot twists and characters stuck so deeply in memory, you forget they were hiding out in all their clarity until prodded again—and once...
My entry for this month’s IndieWeb carnival was the most fun i’ve had writing in a while. It isn’t a genre-defining piece of work, but it conveys what i wanted to convey, which is more than a lot of my journalistic work can say. I should write fiction more often.LinksHere are some “better a working typewriter than a...
It’s a match made in…frankly, I’m not sure where. But I’ve been experimenting with using org-journal as a replacement for Day One, and while it’s pretty good, there are two things that I immediately missed: The way Day One records my location and the weather for every entry. Being able to quickly insert photos that...
It’s Blogvent, day 8, where I blog daily in December! Sewing is fun but inertia exists I’ve been wanting to get back into sewing for a while. When JoAnn Fabrics announced they were going to be shutting down this year, I raided the sales with gusto, with a whole lot of plans to make EVERYTHING. Clothes! Bags!...
Today Tom Waits and I complete 76 years on this Earth. I've written a song for the occasion – it goes to the tune of 'Seventy-Six Trombones' –Seventy-six years old, and I'm feeling fine,Seventy-six years old, and I'm glad – And when I've lived eight more, I'll be all of eighty-four,And the prospect doesn't seem half...

The son of a Wisconsin schoolteacher, Todd Bol was well into his fifties when he dreamt up the first Little Free Library, not expecting that tens of thousands of these tiny shrines to the love of reading would sprout around the world to outlive him. I was visiting a friend on the other side of the continent when I...

Why do people feel the need to post spoilers and clues about daily puzzle games? What do they hope to achieve? All it does is ruin someone else's fun as they now have more information than is required to complete the game. I see it for so many online puzzle games, but let's just take Wordle as an example. It's very...
Manually creating Printify products was taking too long to do manually. I created a Python application to programatically create products and upload them to Printify.
The term has been in use since 2002, and originally expressed a driver’s frustration towards another driver, who had indicated they wished to overtake them, by flashing their car headlights. Certain types of web content have seen the term’s context change somewhat: Rage bait is defined as “online content...

Listen to Third Grade Letter to Santa Hi everyone. Some context before we begin. This was a writing assignment by my then third grade teacher. Obviously, I took the assignment a tad too seriously. All the same, even if you don't celibrate Christmas, never snuff out a child's imagination. Besides, that imagination...
Another week done. No, I haven’t gotten all the Christmas gifts, yet, so next week will be a bit busy.Besides this, not much to tell. I finally managed to cut together a few clips from our family hiking weekend in October and I was a bit weirded out by how much faster and more enjoyable that was on my old gaming PC...
Once I finished blogging my recent ride to Kupalli and back, I thought it would be great to map the songs to the location. I was scrobbling my music to ListenBrainz, and any GPS was logged as usual. Using the good old way of using timestamps to match things, I mapped location to songs and produced a geojson. Here is...
I just heard the news that Peter Edwardson aka Old Mudgie aka Pub Curmudgeon has died. Rather than be reflective or attempt an eloquent memorial I’ll just say, for now, that I’m going to miss Peter very much. From reading and commenting on his blog to numerous pub crawls over the last decade I’ve always enjoyed his...
To start with, I'm quite a fan of paradox games (as in the company, not the concept), with thousands of hours among their games. Recently they released Europa Universalis V, and while skeptical before release it seems to have gotten good ratings and it seems to be relatively stable. I feel like I need to buy it now...
If your well-being matters to you, be your own savior while you can. — Marcus Aurelius What we learn as children programs us in certain ways. These programs run subconsciously. They determine our default emotional responses to everything and the meaning we derive from those responses and the behaviors we enact based...
