I have not ridden a motorcycle for than a couple of kilometers since my neck pain started. Now, I don’t have pain. But I wanted to take a test ride with a heavier helmet before I go on my planned long ride. Also, I have not taken Yamaha on a long ride. And I had not been to Manju’s farm, which is around 80+ miles...
Wow. Wow. Where to even start? At a glance, Sinners is a vampire horror movie slash action film set in the Deep South during the Jim Crow era, about twin brothers coming back to their hometown to start life anew, but of course it all goes to shit when the vampires show up. This hook alone was enough to make me want...
At the temple of the goddess while desert wind burns through your skin become the mirror that reflects light towards the heavens where the twin sisters claim their dominion And remain steadfast in the knowledge that shifting sands mislead only those who ignore the stars Note that this is the first poem I have read...
I’ve had one of those wonderfully serendipitous encounters today, that I wouldn’t have had if I wasn’t maintaining a personal website and wouldn’t be interested in other people’s websites: I went to the Discover section of Bear blog—which is one of my favorite ways to discover new blogs—and stumbled upon Pablo...
Going on semi-hiatus Focus of November 2025: 📚 catalog my personal book collection 🏯 Study more Japanese actively and finish reading my first book. 🙅🏻♀️ DEC will be out of the window due to how busy it is since my kid also decided to be born around Christmas. So I will probably MIA until January. Probably NOV also...
For today’s #Fotovorschlag, I chose this photo from “The Whiteout” collection. I took it during a winter hike where we entered the clouds and experienced …
Ever since starting my own music collection I have wanted to try streaming it with Navidrome, however hosting it on a VPS was tricky for a couple of reasons. First, the bandwidth would be a lot higher because I would be streaming high bitrate tunes quite often (I listen to music for hours a day). Second, I would...
I have been publishing a new post every day since mid September. I’ve had a good time doing it, and I’m going to continue on into next year unless something happens. But I do have to wonder, does publishing too much bug those of you who subscribe to my RSS feed? Do the people who post four or five times a day,...
November 2025. Sheffield. A night in Sheffield between the statutory two in Waterbeach, just time for laundry, a read of the mail, a gig and a catch-up with James. He’d phoned to ask to catch-up, possibly to make sure I’m not investing his inheritance in Crypto, and it pays to keep in touch with your children, as...
At some point, every home server operator loses steam. After 6+ years running ~20 applications on a home server, I wish only for things to work properly and not waste my time. If you’re anything like me, docker compose is probably all you need. Here is my full configuration My needs Any conversation about the...
Some Background Sometimes I download a bunch of archives in zip format, and I don’t always have the files in a format without spaces and such. After a few iterations, I came to the following: find . -name '*.zip' -exec sh -c 'unzip -d "${0%.zip}" "$0"' {} \; But if any of the zip archives were already extracted, I...
Had a real good time at the Marine ball this year. This one felt way more ‘connected’. Probably because we knew almost everyone? Had to head back home around 2130 right around the time the music was kicking in. The souvenir coin looked pretty tame as compared to the coin the Yaoundé detachment designed earlier this...
Howard Oakley DS_Store files contain a folder’s custom attributes, data like icon positions, and in more recent versions of macOS custom settings for the display of file metadata. I first encountered .DS_Store files in my 11ty projects. In fact, it’s included in my .gitignore file. Now I know what it is.
Posted on November 16, 2025 Remember roundups of links? That was the original web logging, my friends. And I’m feeling old-school. This poem by Denis Welch really stuck with me. Denis Welch! A byline you don’t see much these days. I thought I saw Keith in Mercer Street, striding along, fit on his feet, looking well...
A few days ago, Manu posted about his internet input diet where he shared his thoughts concerning what he consumes online, who is getting his attention, and how much?. He wrote: The topic of who is getting my attention these days is something I’m spending a lot of time thinking about. Because time and attention are...
This third installment of the magician heist series arrives 9 years after the last one so I had forgotten most of characters. The good news is that it doesn't really matter as the plot is light and pacing quick.Currently Listening: Balu Brigada “What Do We Ever Really Know?”Reply via email

TIL: Links in RSS feeds should be absolute 2025-11-16 So I recently got this site added to PowRSS, an RSS feed aggregator for Indie Web sites. Nice! Except, no. None of the links to my posts work currently: they all point to something like https://powrss.com/posts/my-post which is wrong. The reason for this is that...
Check out As in guillotine... for more. Record scratch; freeze frame… Spoiler Alert / tldr: I didn’t, technically — although it depends on how you define the industry — but I sometimes think the book side never really considered me part of the industry to begin with. Read on for the full story, or scroll to the end...
I actually love fonts! (Which might surprise those who know that I leave my webpage set to the browser default font, but it’s * I love good fonts so much that I think fonts should be a reader decision, not a server decision.) When my desktop went headless after having to move to a way smaller apartment and my Emacs...
When people talk about Generative AI, the focus is usually on: But what I am missing a lot in those conversations are: If there’s a user interface: And the elephant in the room:
The Story The drama is technically xuanhuan with some wuxia-ish elements thrown in: it’s both genre-bending and experimental. At its core, it revolved around Tang Lici (Luo Yunxi) and Liu Yan (Alen Fang), two characters with a complicated history involving a misunderstanding over what Liu Yan thought Tang Lici did...
All this time Dorothy and her companions had been walking through the thick woods. The road was still paved with yellow brick, but these were much covered by dried branches and dead leaves from the trees, and the walking was not at all good. There were few birds in this part of the forest, for birds love the open...
Finished reading Meditations for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. A friend suggested I pick this up; I’m glad I did, as it contains snippets of wisdom that I needed to hear. I love the idea of treating my reading pile “like a river, not a bucket” and my to-do list as a menu. The saying that ‘there’s no time like the...
We have been training visitors from Mmokc for the last two weeks. Despite Bennu falling on the last concentric of the core, we are usually overwhelmed with requests for training---most likely because of our location actually. Everyone wants to see how the core functions and to get some training in official...
Introduction I’ve been enjoying standalong MP3 players! The Innioasis Y1 kept coming across my radar, I like the the form factor, it was $50. What the heck, why not. And Then The community for this thing is insane, it’s just as active as the people doing weird things with my RG35XX. It’s really cool seeing so many...
It appears that everyone recently discovered The Dead internet theory and agreed that it's now a fact. Slop takes over, there is nothing valuable left on the internet. If you don't care enough to click the above link: the theory states that the internet was taken over by bots and generated content. That's sprinkled...
I had already been leaning towards simplifying my physical media collecting by ditching vinyl records, but a video with some startling information gave me the push I needed. Vinyl is Toxic I knew vinyl should be kept out of landfills – that's one reason I justified collecting it. But after recently discovering a...
I was skimming through a children's book on demolition today (kids love construction vehicles) and read about the crew hosing the site down to make it less dusty. So, what's all that about then? Many of the materials buildings are made of produce particulates when crushed; concrete, stone, wood. These particulates...

On October 5, 2023, I wrote an article about catching Dragonair in the Safari Zone in the Nintendo 3DS virtual console version of Pokémon Yellow in 2019. This article is intended to be a follow-up to my personal anecdote with new information that I have since learned about Dragonair in the classic Pokémon Yellow....
Sometimes the mind underlines things before you know why. You jot down a quote, a song lyric, something someone said, something that strikes you as important, then another, then another, and before you realize it you’re keeping a private census of whatever’s been rattling around inside your mind. Ding-ding-ding....

Zaanse Schans is a small village where the Dutch landscape remains more or less the same as it was hundreds of years ago. Windmills, traditional clogs, chocolate, and plenty of wind. Exactly. It’s been one of those weeks. I’m feeling the winter blues already and have this nagging pull to hibernate. I feel exhausted and have no motivation to do anything. And… it’s been raining for two days straight, making the short November days even shorter as a result of the dark and gloomy sky. At least the weekend is...
You can use Nix as a package manager for Emacs, like so: { home-manager.users.eudoxia = { programs.emacs = { enable = true; extraPackages = epkgs: with epkgs; [ magit rust-mode treemacs # and so on ]; }; }; } Today I learned you can also use it to create ad-hoc packages for things not in MELPA or nixpkgs. The other...
