October 8, 2025 I recently wrote about weather apps and their importance in my area. In that post, I mentioned my love for Carrot Weather, but noted that the available weather sources are not accurate for central New Jersey. The most reliable sources for my region are The Weather Channel and Weatherbit. As my Carrot...
I've lately been entranced by synthesizers[1], and especially enjoying the kind of music Hélène makes here. I love that she goes to the trouble of making this setup work in an abandoned building, while making music I find enjoyable. My own efforts in
According to a site that aggregates data from several betting markets, bettors think there’s a 63.9% chance that the Democratic Party will regain control of the US House of Representatives in the midterm elections scheduled for November 3rd, 2026. This is aligned with historically-informed analyses of the election,...
Yesterday I went to see a rather wonderful exhibition of photographs of cathedrals by the late Peter Marlow. It has been touring England's cathedrals, and is currently on show in the north quire aisle of Lichfield. Marlow had been commissioned in 2008 to photograph half a dozen English cathedrals – including...
I continue to use both Omarchy and MacOS as my daily computers. Some days I feel like MacOS, and some days I feel like Omarchy. I really started to enjoy the tiling window manager in Omarchy (Hyprland), and naturally started to put in work trying to make my MacOS take the best bits from it and still keep all the...
Today I arrived in Edinburgh — capital city of Scotland. I'm here for work, and for the next three days I will be attending a conference. However, for today it was simply to arrive, check-in to my hotel, and then relax for the remainder of the day. Being from Scotland, I am no stranger to most of our cities. Over...
Last Friday was a public holiday, so we decided to spend the day at NUE. The highlight of the day promised to be a Luftwaffe Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules (reg. 55+01).
Robocart, a US company, has been developing self-driving vehicles that have the capacity to deliver ten different customer orders in a single run. The service, which the company plans to launch in Austin, Texas, later this year, will see customers pay just three-dollars per delivery, pricing many people will find...
I am trying something new on my blog. I am going to start posting weekly notes. These will be a mix of personal and professional updates, as well as links to articles I have written or found interesting. I am hoping this will be a good way to keep my blog active and also share some of my thoughts and experiences...
David Bushell writes:It’s weird that my address is unobscured yet I get more spam via the contact form! This is something I’ve noticed too, and over the last few years I’ve been noodling on a theory:Sending emails en masse is less cost effective than spamming contact forms. When you’re ramping up your spam operation,...
I review the iMoon app for Ubuntu Touch, available in flavors for version 16.04 and versions 20.04 and 24.04.
The answer is no, but goodness does this look good? Now a few days ago, I talked about the themes that I added to the site. You can still see them if you’re on desktop, there’s a little menu in the lower right side. My favorite so far has been ayu, but they’re all pretty damn good. What’s your favorite? With that...
They kept trying to mess up the style. They're bloating complexity. It's a total mess. It's not net useful. It's annoying to have to type out what I want in English. Andrej Karpathy in his interview with Dwarkesh Patel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXUZvyajciY This is a curated bunch of recent internets...

Ichikawaya Coffee, a machiya in the Gojozaka neighborhood. I liked the black and white treatment, but I missed the bright red scooter from the original color image, so I composited it on top. 五条坂界隈の町家、市川屋珈琲。モノクロの処理は気に入ったが、元のカラー画像の真っ赤なスクーターが恋しかったので、それを合成した。
Back in July 2022 I wrote about Mullvad VPN offering 12- and 6-month activation code cards on Amazon (see Mullvad news release). I had my Mullvad account set to auto-renew back then. Last October, I decided to use the Amazon card option for the first time. I just activated my third Mullvad renewal card, this […]
I’d been with CenturyLink Fiber since I moved into this house in early 2021, and was mostly happy with it. I never had any major outages aside from occasional drops due to their crappy provided router, which I replaced with a Linux SBC running OpenWRT. The only real complaints I had was that they used PPPoE + VLAN...
Why must you rest while the rest go about their days in dazed and discontinuous play? Why are you so tired? Is it late nights? I would suspect beers, but there is little to suggest it. That leaves mornings. Perhaps early days of restless errands. I see those juggled lists and dog-eared calendars. Book piles browned...
September 2025. Atherstone. Just like Oasis, our revival of August’s massively successful Atherstone crawl was a re-run of the big hits, just with better-looking participants. We start off at the canal pub, where the King’s Head is again solid but unexciting, but the Landlord is a good chewy pint (NBSS 3+). The walk...

I kicked around several ideas about how to approach this post. It was initially going to be a standard “how I listen to music in 2025” post where I talked about how I’m trying to bring some variety back, going beyond just streaming. I was going to talk about playing vinyl, returning to my mp3 collection, etc. but...
Stumbled on a song I wrote some years ago and figured I'd share it on here.
Why I created a /feeds page, what it is, and how it helps foster community in the indie web.
