Greetings, wanderer! You've reached my personal homepage. Let me introduce myself: I'm Michał, a middle-aged nerd from southern Poland who can't grow a beard to save his life. Beardlessness is a problem amongst older nerd crowds, so instead I have an old school, static website. The maximize the street cred, this site is fully self-hosted and self-built In fact, you are talking directly to my home server located in the living room. The HTML you are processing is generated by my custom Python SSR and is written in Vim.

It took quite a while, but I finally got a new phone. The Wife's iPhone is at its last days (I have no idea how she does it), so she will inherit my iPhone 13 Mini. That is the law. But it required me to buy myself a new one, as having a phone is now a civic duty. I wanted it all: a FOSS operating system, a...
I often say that I hate GenAI, but I am not sincere when I do that. It's not that I, as a developer, want to write each if or case statement; I couldn't care less about this. While I'd love to be able to write in machine code, I work in ruby which is layers and layers higher. Sometimes, seeing good work simply...
You sure you don't want a computer at your house? - No. - Seems awful strange to me. A man who made all of his money off of computers doesn't want to have one in his house. Well, this is maybe the most relatable movie ever made. Don Johnston (played by Bill Murray) is a guy who learns he impregnated one of his...
Coffee and Cigarettes is a set of 11 short movies Jarmusch shoot between 1986 and 2003. I have no idea how he got Benigni in 1986, but damn! He gets the best cast. Anyway: I'm not a fan of this movie, as the quality differs significantly between individual shorts. There are some which are OK (like Renée, Jack Shows...

OK, so (not that) long story short: I'm back inside Emacs. I deeply enjoyed the Vim side-quest, so I can now say that I use both: Vim and Emacs, but it's time to return to the main storyline. See, Emacs is just so different from anything out there, that nothing comes close. Vim may be an outstanding editor, and...
Ghost Dog was the first Jarmush's movie I've ever seen. I bought a magazine with an attached DVD (there was a time when this was common) and fell in love. I've seen most of his movies since then, but this one always hits different because it was the first. After nth rewatch, which was still decades ago, I came out...
-HTML-- This is a moderately popular site. I get more emails that I ever expected, but I am not one of the big cheese. So, of course! Time to invade Gemini! Not the Google Slop thingy which stole an already established name, but the cool Gemini Protocol. All jokes aside, HTTP is a lost cause. What started as where...

After reading too much of older books, I wanted to catch up on something recent. But then, why not indie? I've been following John Wilker on Mastodon for quite some time, so why not this? The Adventures of Wil Calder is the first volume of Space Rogues series, spanning 10 novels. Wil is a human astronaut who,...
