I'm Sal, and this is my spot. I'm a middle-aged guy with a wife, kids, and a job. Isn't that exciting?? I've had several blogs over the years and have enjoyed all of them. With each iteration, I lower my ambitions, take it less seriously, and try to have more fun. This one is another step in all of those directions, and I'm hoping it sticks around the longest. Disclaimer: I tend to write in short timeboxes and following the 70% rule. If a post seems shallow or half-baked ... yep!

When I moved my blog, I based the new one off of the eleventy-base-blog starter kit. At some point I noticed there was a fade effect when I’d click around my site. It was subtle enought that I ignored it for a bit, thinking perhaps it...
I’m … stunned. I was coming up with a short, fun, provider-agnostic SSH target name for my new VM. I landed on ha because I like using “ha” in chat, it’s short for happy place, and most importantly, I was impatient and wanted to move on....
I’m wrapping a feverish rework of my remote-editing setup. My requirements I have two primary groups of text I want to be able to edit remotely: (a) my personal Obsidian vault, and (b) this blog. I wrote about some of these desires here....

My recent hifi splurge has me excitedly exploring music. Before I go on, I want to make clear: It is empirically true that nobody needs “nice” gear to have a blast with music. You can do it with $8 headphones. I believe that...
I was so tired of staring at screens by the time I finished work last night that I thought I might be over computers for a bit, but I woke up this morning eager to hack on this blog. Funny how that works.
I’m nearing completion of a desk reorganization. Don’t we all love a good desk reorganization?? My last setup had two complete workstations side by side on my desk: Office station: Apple Studio Display, Apple Magic Keyboard, Apple Magic...
I’ve written a few posts on dabbling with Vim mode and struggling to choose between it and the macOS defaults. I think Vim mode is pulling ahead. Here are some quick notes on this in lieu of thoughtful ones. Predictably, Vim mode is...
I’m having trouble finding the time to write full posts lately; so, inspired by the two-sentence journal and other bloggers’ short-form notes, I’m going to try a new thing: two-sentence posts (TSPs). Brace for run-on sentences.
I haven’t bothered with EditorConfig because I’ve assumed it’s about sharing configuration across a dev team, and when it comes to coding, I’m an army of one these days. But I’ve been overlooking another key part of the value prop:...
I just switched from my beloved Studio Display to a different monitor that can handle both my office work and my occasional gaming sessions. I’ve got a whole other post brewing on that, so I won’t go into it here. The new monitor is...
I got “tennis leg” two days ago. Tennis leg is an acute strain of the large calf muscle. I found some other guy detailing is journey with it, and that was helpful to me, so I figured I’d do the same. I’ll update this as things progress....
Our trip to Italy made me once again wonder with a tinge of frustration why the U.S. doesn’t use the metric system. Well, I finally got around to looking this up, and it turns out things could have been different! As NPR reports, Thomas...
It was supposed to be overcast all weekend, but we got lucky. Beautiful out here.
