Funziona benissimo. Fino a marzo. Poi arriva...
I recently updated my app todometer to be styled with pure, native CSS! Styling todometer over time Changing the CSS libraries in todometer has been a real reflection of CSS styling history. When I first built it more than 9 years ago now, that first initial commit had React, Electron, and Less for CSS. Less at the...
Mood: Maliciously compliant. I can't express how much I utterly hate the "Continuing Disability Review." It is a letter that arrives every few years from the government, asking a question that is medically absurd and philosophically insulting: "Are you still disabled?" As if my blindness were a seasonal allergy. As...
These weeknotes are full of gaming related topics yet again, but also some reading, let us celebrate such an accomplishment, yay! 💻 Now that it’s over, it’s weird to think about all the work I did while my workmate was out. It sure was stressful and there were many times where I still felt like I should ask him what...
My first five-day work week for a while, and it was a tough one. Despite twenty years of following GTD and working on simplifying my workflow, in busy periods I end up falling back to a simple list. A mental sweep of all of the things I really need to get done as quickly as possible resulted in a very long list. I’d...
Dear Ciara, The rains have finally begun to reduce in frequency now that Cyclone Narelle has passed by. Yesterday, I even caught a glimpse of blue sky between the clouds. It won’t be long until the wet season begins to dissolve into the dry. I am so eager for the dry season—hungry for it—as it is when I am at my...
Read on the website: Kaktovik numerals are a surprisingly good counting system. It allows many arithmetic operations to be done visually and effortlessly. Though it takes some getting used to. Thus this page!
Who and what was covered in philosophy courses at UK universities in the 1950s and 1960s? . [Barbara Hepworth, “Group III (Evocation)”]That question comes from Brice Ezell, an independent scholar working on a book “about Tom Stoppard’s dramatizations of core questions in analytic philosophy.” He says: I’m currently...
If you have a blog and you’re not making any money off it, for crying out loud, just put your full post in the RSS feed – let us read it without having to use some gizmo tool to view it in its entirety. We’ll check out your website anyway, we probably already know it, but – for heaven’s sake! – forget about the...
For years, the home router has been treated like an appliance you set up once and then forget about. That was always a mistake. This week, the FCC updated its Covered List to include foreign-made consumer routers, which means new models in that category are blocked from receiving FCC authorization unless they...
The Pudding is one of those sites I love to browse regularly and always leave with a feeling of delight (and new insights). If you haven’t heard of them, they are a digital publication that creates data-driven stories. So they often have an interesting dataset or pose a curious question (often both) and turn it into...
Seeing myself in the mirror is odd in it’s own way, after so many years of not. I’m used to looking and telling myself I inhabit a beautiful girl and it’s an awful shame that I’m not her. That I’m not the owner of this body, it’s hers. I love her and don’t want to take it away from her. I still don’t know how to...
It is a Tuesday in November. One person loads the dishwasher wrong again. The other notices and says nothing. This is the data point that matters — not the first date, not the proposal, not the rehearsed charm over cocktails. Marriages are selected on Tuesdays. A thought experiment circulating online asks married...
Went to a Clue (board game) themed escape room and make it out with 6 minutes to spare. ⊕ 1 photo of the crew!Currently Listening: Harry Styles “Ready, Steady, Go!”Reply via email
I collect cool, interesting links spread all over the web and share them here in daily posts. Hope you enjoy! More of them in the archive. Samsung brings AirDrop support to Quick Share with Galaxy S26 series. Initially in South Korea, but other markets are next in line, as are other Samsung devices. Ubuntu 26.04...
Simple is so refreshing. But why is it so challenging? I would be perfectly content wearing Birkenstock sandals, shorts, and a soft t-shirt for the rest of my life (keep in mind that I live in Arizona). But, I have a closet full of clothes. My day could be planned on an index card. An appointment or two each week,...
“To create today is to create dangerously… The question, for all those who cannot live without art and what it signifies, is merely to find out how, among the police forces of so many ideologies… the strange liberty of creation is possible.” “Those who tell you ‘Do not put too much politics in your art’ are not...
Getting back into watercolor painting: thoughts on color choice, blogging in public, and studies of abandoned buildings and nature reclaiming civilization.
It's a philosophical truism that human conscious experience is unified: If you're at a bar, hearing music, tasting beer, and feeling pleasantly relaxed, those experiences don't occur merely side by side. They are joined together into an integrated whole, an experience of music-with-beer-with-relaxation. I'm not sure...
In this 2-hour video I talk with Arkadiusz about how he uses the computer as a blind person. We also cover a range of other issues, from cultural values to topics of artificial intelligence. Much of our conversation revolves around the use of Emacs, which empowers Arkadiusz to do much of his computing. Emacs has a...
Read Tyler's story, How to Paint a Prairie Ghost Train, now!Given it’s a ghost train, I’m dying to know if the paint will still be there when the train returns the next week…That’s a great question! I hope so, but even as the writer of the story, I can’t tell you that for sure. I think one of the things that’s...
March 2026. Dusseldorf. Germany. You can’t come to Dusseldorf and just do one Braurei, even if that one is Uerige. I’d made a list, I was checking it twice. But I already knew I had to pop in Schlussel on the Bolkerstraße, one of the world’s great pub streets. 3 years ago with the lovely Southworths we’d had to...

Quoted End is nigh for Watchtower sign: Iconic placard to come down after $340M sale (2017) by Kathryn Brenzel (therealdeal.com) The iconic Watchtower sign, a glowing fixture over Brooklyn Heights, will soon disappear from the skyline. Earlier this month, the Jehovah’s Witnesses filed a permit application seeking to...
At the end of an athletics training session, I passed by the door of the gym where a youth group was wrapping up for the evening. One of the parents was already waiting just outside for their 11-year-old kid. When she came over, the parent said: "Say goodbye to everyone." The kid looked at her parent, then at the...
My Grandmother had a doctor's appointment on Monday and was given a bill of clean health. Blood tests read like a nursery rhyme, her sodium levels are more stable than my failed marriage ever was, and overall she is in tremendous spirits. Today was something of a different kind of day unlike any other, and one we...
(image courtesy of unknown artist) i'm not quite sure why this image resonated with me above all else that i've seen recently. perhaps it was the amalgamation of imagery. butterflies have long been a consistent symbol of eating disorders; of rebirth, regrowth, an organic flowering from a long-held state of...
Growing up, there was a short pile of books sitting out on the cocktail table in the den of my childhood home, the kind of decorative arrangement that had been there so long they stopped being objects and became part of the air. One was Helter Skelter, Vincent Bugliosi's terrifying account of the Manson murders,...
Steve Krouse wrote a piece that has me nodding along: Programming, like writing, is an activity, where one iteratively sharpens what they're doing as they do it. (You wouldn't believe how many drafts I've written of this essay.) There’s an incredible amount of learning and improvement, i.e. sharpening, to be had...
theverge.comThe new shopping features come a few weeks after a dustup in which influencers caught Instagram adding shopping links to their content without their permission. The “Shop the look” feature added links to cheap lookalike products and not the actual items, an influencer who discovered the feature said....

Over the years, I have built up a small collection of laptops, mostly ones that I've kept around after being replaced by a new laptop. They have been useful when I need to have a fallback laptop or to try out different software or operating systems. In that collection, I have a Late 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro and a...
