YouTubeA living legend and at nearly 90 years old, heâs still got it. Iâve been lucky enough to see him live twice, both times over a decade ago, at Claptonâs Crossroads Guitar Festival, and then at Buddyâs Legends club in Chicago. Seeing him at his small, intimate club was one of my favorite musical experiences...
Here's something I wrote about J.L. Carr for the excellent Engelsberg Ideas. Follow the link...https://engelsbergideas.com/notebook/the-man-who-gave-books-away/
âIf the rabble continues to occupy itself with you, then simply donât read that hogwash, but rather leave it to the reptile for whom it has been fabricated.â Few things are more disheartening to witness than the bile which small-spirited people of inferior talent often direct at those endowed with genius. And few...
Days without turning off site blockers: 11 I saw a pair of swans today. Almost missed them actually, they blended so well into the snowy field.
Keep Going is a short book written and illustrated by Austin Kleon. The subtitle is: â10 Ways to Stay Creative in Good Times and Badâ. Notes Kleon says he wrote the book because he needed to read a book answering the question of how to keep going with creative work. The book is a list of whatâs helped him. The...
(image courtesy of avogado6) why do i care so much about what i "put into" myself? do i actually care about "preserving my health", or am i just pursuing some vain and self-obsessed notion of purity, abstinence; a means of "proving" my worth and existence here, on this earth? within this physical plane, society,...
The snow has been tough for my running schedule in February but it's starting to clear and temperatures have started to lift. Yesterday got in a solid 45 miles of cycling, including up to this point near the George Washington Bridge, and back on the Tappan Zee.ListeningI didn't add any new music to my collection...
Let's define a discussion arc in philosophy as a curve displaying how frequently a term appears in philosophical journal abstracts, titles, and keywords. Discussion arcs can reveal trends over time, as they come and go. For example, "ordinary language" was a popular topic of discussion in the 1960s: [click to...
After a bit of a burst of activity and motivation in January, life took over again for most of February leaving me very little time to do much. So my planned piece for the month which involves modelling a new spaceship in Blender from scratch for the foreground hasn't progressed much at all (I think that one is...

We have worked on some spring cleaning for Breeze, which helps us to prepare for Union and the changes it brings. This post is a bit more technical. Help us test things! Edit: I made another post that should help explain some of the terminology and such: https://akselmo.dev/posts/what-are-breeze-widgets-quick-union/...

In this 30-minute video I show some of the work I am doing at the back side of my land. I need to collect soil for some infrastructure project. To do this, I must first tear down a small side of the mountain. Then I can collect the soil using the shovel and the handcart to move it where it needs to be. This is a...
I woke up to the news that the USA and Israel launched a major military strike against Iran. It is natural to feel worry and fear over what this might mean not only for innocent people in Iran, but of the surrounding region and even the world. And then I read the Daily Readings from the United States Conference of...
February was not a good month for me. I had been drowning in what felt like endless interviews, only to be ghosted at the end. Writing out and documenting these micro thoughts just reminded me of the crash-out I had. Here they are anyways... â ïž Want to learn what these Micro Thoughts are? Read the explanation here...
I havenât done one of these in a bit. Itâs time to take on the blog question challenge from Alexandra. Why did you make a blog in the first place? If Iâm to believe my own writing from 2004: [T]he goal I have is just to keep honing those all important writing and communication skills. Additionally, I think this...
Vivimos en un mundo que nos presiona constantemente para decir «sĂ». SĂ a los TĂ©rminos del servicio que no leĂmos. SĂ a la aplicaciĂłn que todo el mundo utiliza. I'm starting to experiment with straight out of camera JPG's from my EM1 III. Less time in front of the screen editing images is starting to feel more and more appealing. And if I can get away without a subscription to Adobe's Creative Cloud suite, then even better. Above is another Robin to add to the recent...

I consider myself quite a relaxed person. I don't freak out under pressure and I stress about very little. Today I was almost having palpitations! We have a fully electric car. With this comes a degree of forward planning for journeys â especially long ones. If your travel exceeds the range of the car's battery you...
img { display: inline-block; } rose 5 year anniversary with my wife. :) Started a creation event for the Gazette. I created more art! In my professional experience, Iâve often dealt with corporate communication. Many users donât know what an email is, donât know how to write, donât know how to reply, or â even worse â sometimes donât even realize they need to reply. The inability to communicate within an organization, both internally and, above...
I published three snowman-themed articles since the end of December, with one covering an actual snowman and two covering a snowman kokeshi doll and snowman cups respectively. Subsequent to my snowman coverage at the end of 2025, New York City has seen two significant snow dumps. When snow falls, some people build...

âI ask your pardon once more,â said Candide to the Baron, âyour pardon, reverend father, for having run you through the body.â âSay no more about it,â answered the Baron. âI was a little too hasty, I own, but since you wish to know by what fatality I came to be a galley-slave I will inform you. I spent the last day or so completely redesigning the Music page here on the blog. I took inspiration from the week view on Last FM. Itâs not as colorful, and I still have some work to do (the background of the div containers are not right), but itâs pretty great. LastFM provides quite a bit of info via their API. I...
This was a test. Everything was a test. Everything was a competition. Life put them in front of you every day. You watched yourself all the time. You had to make choices. You never got told which ones were right. Oh, some of the priests said you got given marks afterward, but what was the point of that? Carpe...
Heya! So, Suliman is hosting the bearblog carnival this month, and the topic is "Your favorite meme". This came at just the right time, because I have once again rediscovered "We can be bees". It's a clip from a sadly now deleted YTP by verytallbart. You can watch it here. I don't exactly know why, but this has just...
I read Erika Hallâs Just Enough Research. Iâm not going review the entire book as it feels a bit off-topic for this blog, but the chapter about surveys had me nodding my head so much Iâd love to excerpt a few things: The questions can be asked in person or over the phone, or distributed on paper or collected online....
Hey everybody, I wanted to make this post to be the announcement that I did in fact survive my surgery I am leaving the hospital today and I want to just write up what I've had on my mind over these last couple months and why have not been as active and open source I wanted to. February 2026. Hull. Great excitement in the Pub Ticker community as I note a Draught Bass check-in on the way to Hull, but sadly Nolanâs (next to Ye Olde White Hart) was experiencing a lack of the amber nectar. Has there ever been a cask beer so frequently out of stock as Bass ? Never mind, Hull has beer, notably...
Iâve had so much fun at the San Diego Bird Festival this weekend both as a volunteer and participant. Itâs been great getting outside, meeting new and experienced birders, learning about birds and conservation, and finding âbird joyâ. Also Iâll never grow old of seeing American Kestrels like this guy!...
Hereâs how writing works today. First, a tiny thing. Then: a follow-up. And then a sentence with a strangely condescending tone! The real information is right here though. Not in this sentence. Or this one. Could it be here? Nope! After a few short, vague, and mysterious sentences now you get to read a much longer...

If Flickr can have it's MODE thing, I guess the Wait Wait Stats Project can also have one. Okay, maybe it's not quite as grandiose as Flickr's photography festival. After all, we're just talking statistics here.
One of the first use-cases I found for LLMs back when ChatGPT first released was automating the creation of citations, or rather the transformations of citations structured in one way into .bib-files that can be used to create a wide variety of uniform citations in \(\LaTeX\) documents. LLMs are fantastic for this...
Sometimes it takes some experimentation to get the cookies just right. Back in the spring of 2020 I came across a old recipe bookie that my Primary teacher put together for everyone. We brought in our favourite recipes in from home and she wrote them all out and made a recipe book for everyone. My contribution was...

Last year, Robert Birming called for us all to share "The text that appealed to you most during the month, for whatever reason." and, thus, Fabruary was born.
