View from the Richmond - San Rafael bridge westbound. Current toll price: $8.00 There is a bike lane on this bridge that I've been meaning to use, but haven't gotten a chance to. Hopefully one day before they decide to get rid of it. I always feel so privileged to live in a place where views like this is the norm. I...
This week I have been making several small improvements to Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain. First: the website now has a footer that links to important pages, from the privacy policy to the API documentation. Many of these pages have been added over time and, until now, there was no place that grouped them...
I'd love to keep a journal. But I worry about privacy. Should it be digital or paper based?
DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering — those three terms that often and quickly get mixed up. But they describe different roles. And I think it’s good to know the difference — at least if you’re somehwere working in modern software development. Read the full article here: Devops, SRE, and platform engineering: What’s...
A couple of days ago, I wrote about how I’ve been working on improving this blog. Well, that task continues. Today, instead of making a video for my YouTube channel like I was supposed to, I worked on adding a drop down menu to the menu up top. Yesterday, I got that menu so that it collapses when the screen gets...
I was on Reddit a few weeks back when I stumbled across a thread where people asked, "How can you tell when something is written by AI?" Everyone answered: em dashes and italics. When I read that, I sort of clutched my pearls a bit. I love an em dash. It's like Adobo seasoning for me. I sprinkle them everywhere. I...

Weeknote #10 o’clock in the mornin', gave myself a stretch, a mornin' yawn and… Life Notes Decided to move my life notes higher because why not? These weeks of 2025 just get heavier and heavier as we go, don’t they? We live in a country where more protection is given to a patch of asphalt that (heaven forbid!) may...
tl;dr Tested versions: Google Web Designer 16.3.0.0407 (released April 2025) After my recent discovery of two client-side remote code execution vulnerabilities in Google Web Designer (previously disclosed in my articles earlier this year: CVE-2025-1079, CVE-2025-4613), in April 2025 I've found yet another serious...
The vital force of life is charged by the poles of holding on and letting go. We know that the price of love is loss, and yet we love anyway; that our atoms will one day belong to generations of other living creatures who too will die in turn, and yet we press them hard against the body of the world, against each...
In this new video series, I talk to anybody who is interested to have a video call with me (so do contact me if you want!). The topics cover anything related to Emacs, technology, and life in general. More here: https://protesilaos.com/prot-asks/. In this video I talk with Alex about a range of interesting topics....
The following was originally posted as the 105th edition of Manu’s “People and Blogs” series. 1) Let’s start from the basics: can you introduce yourself? Hi, my name is Courtney. I’m a cishet white man and a perpetually tired netizen, a descriptor I’m confident hasn’t been used unironically in decades. While I don’t...

As I get a new laptop, I usually keep the old one around for a while and try to find a new use for them instead of selling or donating them. That is how I have two different MacBook Pro laptops that have been sitting around and collecting dust, including a 15-inch Late 2016 MacBook Pro (2016 MBP) and a 16-inch 2019...
Anything can be anything! Until the next game starts, of course.
I read about the Fire Toolbox utility for “debloating” and customizing Amazon Fire Tablets. That inspired me to buy a cheap ($35-40) Fiire 11 tablet from 2021 on Woot back in April or May. I finally got around to using it. Unfortunately, because of updates, some of the Toolbox’s utilities like setting a custom...
