Thirteen things this Thursday that I have read, watched, listened to or otherwise found noteworthy.
On the 17th September I begin something crazy: moving to Germany and studying Maths at Universität Bremen. This is only for an academic year (September-July), but this has potentially to be a pivoting life experience. My motivations for going are fairly complicated — aspects of challenge and ambition, restlessness...
Introducing GoGuestReply Registration-free guest comments powered by the Fediverse and Go Triggered by a blog post by David titled I want to comment on your blog post, I came up with an idea that, at least to my mind, would be the ideal commenting system for my website. Based on that idea, I’ve created GoGuestReply:...
"Books that stayed" is (hopefully) a series of brief notes about books, short stories, and novellas that "put a dent", that I think about often and a few that I re-read once in a while. This is the first instalment. The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, John le Carré I picked this from a paper-mart that also sold some...
This post discusses how dividing an odd number of CPU cores by 2 in JavaScript creates decimal thread counts, causing invalid responses in Anubis. The fix truncates decimal values using Math.trunc.
I rarely watch Bollywood movies now a days as they show typical stories without any original ideas. But as I am in India now so I decided to go whatever was in cinema. Today's movie is War-2 which is a sequel of War movie. I was unaware of it and I came to know when my wife told me. The lead actor, Hritik Roshan's...
How you engage with the world changes how you experience the world, and how the world experiences you. A snarky and cynical approach, by its default assumption that things are shit, or if they are not yet shit will inevitably turn to; such an approach will give your world a malodorous brownish tint. Granted, snark...
Upcoming teaching opportunity on Saturday in the city of Taubaté. New Bible reads well, feels good, is a great size, a possible new version to move to. (More on that later.) Water from the street is back on. ¶ Middle son of a sister in Christ, in Taubaté, died today of a heart attack. He was 36. Burial will be...
if there's one thing I'm not good at, it's dealing with the feeling of failure. let's be honest, no one likes to fail or make mistakes, but it's something that can happen to any of us, anywhere, at any time. I've been working on the skill of "looking on the bright side" and seeing mistakes as lessons, and I'm...
Tracy Durnell's recent post resonates with what I've been doing lately to make my computer usage more pleasant. I've been in the habit of compulsively checking notifications (Mastodon, RSS, YouTube subscriptions, etc.), and I figured out that staying away from that, and using my computer for local things is much...
Recently, I downgraded my Visual Studio 2022 Enterprise installation to Visual Studio 2022 Professional, which worked well, except that I couldn’t compile anything with CMake and couldn’t open most C# projects, as MSBuild was failing with the following cryptic error message: Project.csproj : error : The expression...
Present Me is notorious for committing Future Me to things that Future Me cannot deliver. Present Me is also notorious for not realizing this until Present Me becomes Future Me, at which point Present Me curses the name of Past Me for getting Present Me into this mess. Such is the situation at the start of this...
since they don't get half the love they deserve, I thought I might as well put this list out there for the (anglophone) world to see.
Artists often take photos of their exhibitions being put up, but never after they’ve been taken down: nothing to see here, please move along. Overall the Acid Renaissance: Arcana exhibition was a success. I sold five unframed giclée prints and four framed giclée prints, which more than paid for the posters, flyers,...
Quickly transpose sentences and paragraphs using key bindings in Emacs Emacs has several fantastic functions that offer you superpowers when it comes to text editing. I recently heard the word 'Techtember' for the first time. I had to look it up to see what it means. Here's an explanation: Techtember refers to the annual period when many companies unveil their latest products and services. In other words, it's that time of the year when large corporations desperately try to...

I’m about 2 months into my apple watch experiment, and to be honest, I’m not wearing it now. I haven’t worn it on a daily basis for a few weeks. It is upstairs, on my bedside cabinet happily charging away. To start with I really enjoyed wearing it, the technology seemed great, notifications were handy and even...
