I’ve been feeling a little disconnected in a weird way from music lately, which is kind of odd, considering that I am almost always playing something during the day. I’m a huge music fan, always have been, and I think that in this world of buffet all-you-can-eat streaming services, that might be part of why I’m...

At the Principia conference last week, I was invited by GRIFA (GRupo Interinstitucional de Filosofias Analyticas), to give a workshop on the topic of methodology. Since I was given two hours — one the first night of the conference, one the last night, I decided to make it a proper workshop: I mostly lectured the...

I’ve been struggling with my fibromyalgia + chronic fatigue lately. So hard for me to do any of the things I want to do. I can push myself into it for something especially compelling but that ends up wiping me out for days afterward. And I feel like I’m missing so much time, too.

On the latest Late Night Linux podcast, the gang discussed a recent blog post by Daniel Stenberg about the plight of reviewers -- specifically, open source bug bounty program reviewers, who are facing a rising tide of AI slop. I think this has implications for my profession, particularly the task of conducting...

Well, some things have changed since January! I now live in Darmstadt, Germany, with my partner. With the move, I haven’t been able to read as much, but now I can explore the surroundings of Darmstadt. We already went to Heidelberg and Frankfurt, but we are missing Alsace, Meinz, the Black Forest… Plenty of things!...

As I continued the descent into my split keyboard addiction, I decided to dive off the deep end and handwire my own ergonomic keyboard. My Corne was a good intro keyboard, but I eventually determined it had more keys than I actually needed. I also grew intrigued towards keyboards with better ergonomics - more...

I saw this summer’s Marvel movie in the theater on Sunday. A bit of a last minute idea so we ended up going to the “legacy” movie theater across the highway. Before I continue, It’s important to understand my local cinema dynamics. We have two theaters here in Austin: The Alamo Drafthouse and All Other Cinemas. The...

Listen to On The Violent Aerodynamics of a Pastry There are moments in life that force you to confront the great philosophical questions: the nature of consciousness, the existence of free will, the reason a frosted blueberry toaster pastry will, when provoked, achieve a velocity previously thought exclusive to...

I went for an overnight trip to FRA. And it goes without saying that I spent Sunday afternoon and Monday morning at Zeppelinheim capturing airplanes. The light was meh, but I did manage to catch a handful of interesting machines, including an Airbus A320-200 (reg. YR-SEA) operated by an unfamiliar (to me) Star East...

CDS modelling across files and modules In the context of CDS models, one of the best practices is to embrace aspects and "factor out separate concerns into separate files". In addition to files the CDS compiler supports Node.js packages (modules). An example of both can be found in the sample facet. Let's create a...

Today, YouTube decided to recommend me videos from a guy who explores weird train lines and train stations, mostly in the Tokyo area. I’m not really a train otaku, but I ended up watching quite a few of the videos because I just … liked the vibe. Part of the reason why the videos felt so nice was the low production...
