Development containers are cool and I want to see if they work out in practice.
This was supposed to be a great year for reading. I planned on 40 new books and 40 rereads, which is slightly better than last year. But so far I’m at 12 books and we’re already half way through the year. It’s worse though, because I haven’t finished a book since mid-May. I’ve hopped from one to another, constantly...
Our first olives I picked a couple of kilos of black olives off the tree out back. Not really knowing what to do with them I found an instructive video by a Turkish nonna. She explained and demonstrated how to cure olives by sticking them in a bag with a few handfuls of rock salt. Brilliant. I have been giving my...
I have a new ls replacement! I was using eza (see Eza on Fedora 42 ) for a while, but I’ve found something even better: lsd. This tool is a nice because it displays icons for file types, making it so much easier to navigate files directories. The default settings are great, but the date format mm/dd/yyyy is a bit...
One of the apple products I have never owned is an Apple Watch, I was recently offered a spare watch by my parents so I thought I would give it a go. I have always wondered if it would be useful or a bit of another kit that makes more demands on my time and attention – another thing to charge! There are a few things...
Starlink, OpenWrt, and Eeros… Oh My! 2025-06-29 In my previous post, Setting Up Pi-Hole with Eero on Starlink, I broke down how to implement - you guessed it - Starlink running through a PiHole connected to my mesh eero wifi nodes. That setup still works and runs well, but I wanted to take a stab at setting up my...
I'm glad one of us posted to the blog, even if it was more of a vent than I expected to start this out with. It's been a real struggle to get anything out here. I'm hoping for this blog to be informative. I legitimately hope that my life experiences, my self-discovery, can be helpful for the people like me in...
No one will accuse me of being a Python expert, but I have increasingly been using it to take care of tasks. For example, if I build a website, I now often use Markdown or CSV files to store the data for the site, process it with Python, and then push it to whatever server its hosted on. This time, however, I made...
The last two months have been a ride on a very slow moving roller coaster. Living with health challenges has taken an adjustment no one asked if I was ready to make. Thankfully, I'm a quick study and I'm finding out what my current capabilities allow me to do. I'm sleeping like a baby, meaning that I can't make it...
Listen to The Automated Labyrinth, and How I Slew the Minotaur. The modern world’s version of the Minotaur is not a half-man, half-bull. It is the automated phone system of your health insurance company. It lives in a labyrinth of menus and hold music, and its only purpose is to devour your will to live. "For...
weeknote #25.03 Sunday, 29. June, 2025, Gozo, MT Traveled over the night: the flight was 5:45 from Zagreb, but I first had to get there, and few hours before, and after landing there's more travel to get to the destination, so most sleep was done while on the road, in the air, on the sea. This fragmented dozing...
