Last week, I "did an oopsie" and ended up with no home internet for one evening. I came home from work, turned on the computer as usual - no internet. Tried connecting a few more times, restarted - still nothing. At first, my reaction was "oh no! this is bad!" But after I found out what the problem was, and had done...

Patterns are anti-randomness and thought is made of pattern-stuff

There is a pond not far from my favorite spot in NUE. The pond is part of a nature reserve around the airport, and it has been taken over by frogs. I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to them croaking all day long. It's a soothing sound that never fails to calm me down, and it always makes me smile.

With devices lasting longer, I now have the unique opportunity to hold on to older designs I love the most.

Listen to On the Architectural Hostility of Doorknobs Before we begin, I am in the USA, where levers are rare. Most people think of doorknobs as simple things. A bit of metal, maybe some ceramic or glass, bolted to a slab of wood. A mechanism. You turn it, a latch retracts, a path opens. Simple. It’s a transaction...

There’s some productivity traps I fall into on a regular basis. They all tie into my personal flavor of ADHD but it’s not totally fair to blame the ol’ meat-wad brain when I know when, where, and why it happens. There’s a Big Thing to do, so I can’t do anything else Boredom in meetings leads internet wanderings I...
Before saying anything else, I'd like to thank the organisers of JSNation for inviting to speak in Amsterdam. I particularly appreciate the folks who were brave enough to disagree at the Q&A sessions afterwards. Engaged debate about problems we can see and evidence we can measure makes our work better. The...
For the past two years I've been working remotely most of the time. I sometimes go the office in Amsterdam, but I vastly prefer working from home. Being at the office is really nice for a change of scenery, working together with others, and having lunch together, but I find that I get more stuff done when I'm at...
This post is my contribution to the June 2025 IndieWeb Carnival, themed "Take Two" and hosted by Nick Simson. Throughout my over three decades of life, I have had various interests。 However, there is an interest that was technically lifelong, but I did not explore as much as I could in the early days, so it took a...
¶ 1. So many variables in every day! How grateful for a God who exercises his sovereign will over and in the universe! ¶ 2. Have been doing much more reading of late. Good sign and great exercise for this old brain. ¶ 3. I’ve been using colored pens to liven up my Bullet Journal pages. Does it help? Hard to say....

When I leave for university this fall, I'll have a chance to reinvent myself. I've always thought about the day when I actually do so. What kind of person do I want to become? Actually, the fact alone that I've thought of this question so much feels strange. Is there something I don't like about myself? Maybe. I...

I created a new zine, it was completed just in time for the Summer Solstice, which feels somewhat thematic. This zine is all about wildflowers that I’ve seen on walks in North East England. This is the second zine I have hand-bound using thread, the first was a portfolio zine I made for a job […]
Super, SUPER stoked to be part of this program for the next year! The Institute for Diversity and Civic Life is a nonprofit organization dedicated to telling stories and documenting experiences of the endlessly diverse people living in Texas. I’m joining a group of multimedia storytellers, each of us working on our...
Op zaterdag 28 juni om 16:00 uur wordt de poort, inclusief het nieuwe deurkalf en reclamebord onthuld, in het bijzijn van docenten, medestudenten en iedereen die belangstelling heeft.
WARNING: This post references 1970's British Television sitcoms, it may not make sense to some. Citizen Smith aired the year after Thatcher's visit to Broken Hill Landlords will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes . At least that is what Wolfie from Citizen Smith said. Unfortunately Wolfie was...
For the longest time, I wanted speakers for my desk setup. I used to have this crappy set of Logitech computer speakers, but they burnt out long ago. For years after that happened, I used a good quality set of headphones at my desktop computer. I don’t mind this, really. It gets the job done and I don’t have to...
