Hiro challenged us to focus on a specific composition technique each week

"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked."

I don’t really like blog post titles that just promise tips, but this post is truly a mishmash of other stuff I’ve learnt, so I couldn’t think of anything better. I at least refrained from calling it ‘Clare’s top tips’, which was the title I put on the slides for this section when I was giving the talk these posts...

This text is satirical in nature. Tech news is abuzz with rude AI crawlers that forge their user-agent and ignore robots.txt. In my opinion, if this is all the AI startups can muster, they’re losing their touch. wget can do this. You need to up your game, get that crawler really rolling coal. Flagrant disregard for...

Forgot to mention it here, but thanks to a fan I brought BrutalWiki back from the dead. That was a month ago; by now there's a new version, and I updated the live demo too.

It’s a shadow cube inspired by the cover of one of my dad’s most formative books, Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter. This 5×5×5 cm thing of hardened filament is one of my...

Sometimes you just want an image to be more in your face, you know?

I made a change to the KURLNavBar according to old mockup, since we hoped it would be easier to use. This was a bad idea and made many people angry, at least on Reddit. Seems to be a recurring theme with my visual changes, though this time wasn't nearly as bad as that was. Anyway, I wanted to go over the process...
