Is it okay to prioritize readability and learning over cutting-edge optimization on personal websites? I believe so.

An update It’s been nearly a year since I last touched this project. It’s the top idea always stumbling around in the back of my head with a ton of potential in it. Here is the original pitch from a few years back: Game Feed A Tik-Tok style infinite feed of hyper casual game shorts. Open app, play a game for 1-5...
Table of Contents Functions Side Effects Conclusion Programming languages (and their users) are often grouped into two main intellectual schools of thought: Object-oriented programming (OOP) and functional programming. These two schools both claim to offer ways to manage the increasing complexity that comes with the...
I used to laugh at the meme that emacs could be used for everything, and thought it crazy that one would “live in emacs” (that is a post from almost two years ago where I didn’t even really believe it myself). No one was quite sure why, especially because there hadn’t been any significant updates to the tests, and they passed locally for all the developers who ran them. I had a small pull request that was...
Setup an OpenBSD VM on macOS Using UTM 2025-03-12 The UTM app for macOS is an excellent piece of software for those wanting a streamlined GUI when working with virtual machines. Their existing Gallery of pre-built images is great, but it currently lacks any of the BSDs. Lucky for us, creating your own OpenBSD VM is...
For a while now, I've been slowing working on a refactor of the codebase of this blog. At one point, I got caught in exciting world of performance and I wanted to make sure I had a super fast pageload. Currently, my CSS is added inline in the HTML and I found myself thinking "no one will be able to read this". I...
