Replied to On AI in response to: A Positive Technologist Identity by Wojtek Powiertowski (behindtheviewfinder.com) Benjamin Breen wrote a piece today that captures this tension beautifully. He's a historian and writer who commits to not using AI for his own prose, a choice I respect and understand. But he also...
Replied to On AI in response to: A Positive Technologist Identity by Wojtek Powiertowski (behindtheviewfinder.com) Where I'd push back gently is on the implication that AI-assisted media is somehow lesser for being assisted. We've seen this pattern before. When photography emerged, painters dismissed it as...
Replied to On AI in response to: A Positive Technologist Identity by Wojtek Powiertowski (behindtheviewfinder.com) Thank you for the thoughtful engagement with my post, Mr. Ferrell and for the kind framing. I believe we might be closer in agreement than it might appear. I published a short post titled A Positive...
Victor V. Gurbo is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter (see his official website). I have known him for just about 20 years now (we both agree that has been way too long but it is too late now to do anything about it). Victor has published a good number of NLJ articles (see his NLJ author profile). I “interviewed”...
Quoted Almost 20 Years Later, The PS3 Is Still Receiving Updates by Moises Taveras (GameSpot) Your eyes do not deceive you: Sony's nearly decades-old console has received a new update. Version 4.93 of the PS3 firmware is now available for anyone still kicking around on the company's decidedly retro home system,...
Monday is the beginning of the work week. But it is also Pook-Emu Bee links day. Of course, every day except Newsletter Saturday is Pook-Emu Bee links day… 1. Favorited I wish reply articles worked better by Maddy Miller (madelinemiller.dev) Something that I felt was missing however, was the ability to find actual “reply articles”. Articles written in reply to mine. These generally are my favourite kinds of conversations to see, because it means someone was motivated...
I credited a blog post to the personal blog of the pseudonymous Joel Chrono with giving me a concept for my new New Leaf Journal Blogroll. Because Joel Chrono’s post gave me an idea and I read his post because I subscribe to his RSS feed, I decided that his site should have the honor of being the first entry on my...
The daily Pook-Emu Bee links were off yesterday thanks to Newsletter Leaf Journal 272. But with no new newsletter coming until next Saturday, the Pook-Emu Bee returns. If you enjoy the (almost) daily links and commentary, you can also follow via feed. 1. Awesome Ghibli Howl’s Moving Castle figure is also a puzzle...
Quoted The Week in Brooklyn: March 15–21, 2026 by orli (brooklynbridgeparents.com) After more than a decade of broken promises, the Hotel Bossert at 98 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights is finally under renovation. SomeraRoad, which bought the building for $100 million last year, began replacing the old...
Quoted Snowy Owl Overview, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology (allaboutbirds.org) Thick feathers for insulation from Arctic cold make Snowy Owls North America’s heaviest owl, typically weighing about 4 pounds—one pound heavier than a Great Horned Owl and twice the weight of a Great Gray Owl (North America’s...
Quoted Sega Genesis Finally Gets Long-Awaited Stock Ticker App 37 Years After Launch by Lewin Day (Hackaday) Until now, if you were seated at your Sega Genesis and wanted to check your stock portfolio, you were out of luck. You had to get a smartphone, or a computer, or maybe even a television to look up stock...
