I read an April 18, 2026 report in the New York Post titled After holding its nose for decades, NJ finally bans stinky Bradford pear tree: Under a new law, the Bradford pear tree and 29 other non-native plants that have been leafing chaos on local ecosystems, posing public safety risks, crowding out native plants...
Work did not allow for timely Pook-Emu Bee links, but today I return with nine new links from around the web. 1 Popular WordPress redirect plugin hid dormant backdoor for years (Bill Toulas for Bleeping Computer. Quoted A love letter to cassette futurism by Mike Piggott (Twisted Wonderland) [C]assette futurism is a retro-futuristic aesthetic from around 1970-1985, and is a subgenre of sci-fi that essentially envisions a future through utilitarian, analogue technology. Think tech that was available in that time period: bulky...

Replied to It’s Noon in Israel: Schrödinger’s Ayatollah: Is Mojtaba Dead or Alive? by Amit Segal (It's Noon In Israel) The narrative has essentially frozen there. But now that it has been taken care of, I present for your enjoyment today’s edition of Pook-Emu Bee links (note that “we” will be off until Sunday or Monday since tomorrow’s links will be packaged in The Newsletter Leaf Journal.) 1. Massive fire...
I checked my emails this morning and saw an alert from Cloudron that New Leaf Journal had become non-responsive. By the time I saw the report, NLJ had recovered. I was a bit alarmed since I had recently increased my server resources and implemented a new server-level IP blocking strategy. I checked the logs and...
