I am a philosopher living in the mountains of Cyprus at a house I built myself which I affectionately call “the hut.” I spend my free time programming on GNU Emacs, writing essays on a wide range of life issues, and doing infrastructure work around my house. My background is diverse and reflects my intellectual curiosity as well as consistently high work ethic.

This is a major mode for editing sxhkdrc files. SXHKD is the Simple X Hot Key Daemon which is commonly used in minimalist desktop sessions on Xorg (I use it with bspwm, herbstluftwm, and i3wm). The sxhkdrc file configures key chords, binding them to commands. For the technicalities, read the man page sxhkd(1)....
Writing for Social Europe, in an article titled Europe Cannot Defend Its Values by Teaching Them Professor Jørn Bjerre makes a case in favour of liberal democracy in the European Union: Only by building institutions in which rational argument takes precedence over utility can we prove al-Nabhani wrong when he claims...
For today’s entry in the series I have picked Street flower. It is a love song written and originally performed by Giorgos Rous (Γιώργος Ρους). It was then remixed by Maria Spanou (Μαρία Σπανού), who gave it a slower pace and a stronger sense of brokenheartedness. Here is the version that Maria performs:...
Writing for The Guardian, Raphael Rashid comments on the degradation of local culture in a neighbourhood of Seoul, South Korea: A wave of tourists and visitors has changed the character of the Seoul neighbourhood I live in and helped create a place that no longer feels like home Raphael’s story is one that many...
This package provides a global minor mode to increase the spacing/padding of Emacs windows and frames. The idea is to make editing and reading feel more comfortable. Enable the mode with M-x spacious-padding-mode. Adjust the exact spacing values by modifying the user option spacious-padding-widths. Package name (GNU...
I shaved my hair and beard ten days ago. But I have to do it again, which is too much work. Here is the publication from ten days ago: I left the eyebrows. And here is another picture of it. So I might let it all grow again!
I do not have a target for how frequently I write. If I feel like commenting on something, I will do it. Though it turns out that I publish daily and often at great length. Here is the number of Markdown files I have added this year to my website’s source code, which represent publications: ~/Git/Projects/protlab $...
With quarter moon at its apex and the equinox in sight the dance of the bee-eaters celebrates the coming Autumn Swallow I am and Spring incarnate on cranes waiting to hop to fly to the Eastern lands as travelling merchant and bearded troubadour to meet the girl who dreams of becoming in the eyes of a foreigner that...
This is a simple package to automatically preview in a window the file at point in Dired buffers. Preview windows are closed when they are no longer relevant, while preview buffers are killed if they have not been used for other purposes beside previewing. The package provides several customisation options to...
