Ivan

I'm Ivan, a mechanical design engineer. I work on CAD modeling and technical development, but I also enjoy coding and exploring niches. I’m really into skill toys. Kendama is my main focus now, but yoyoing has been a big part of my life for years. I got my first yoyo in primary school, then upgraded to better models in high school, and over time, my collection grew to well over 100. I also enjoy movies of all genres, sports like snowboarding, ski touring, cycling, and swimming, and reading books, comics, and blogs.

Omarchy 21 Sep, 2026 I made the jump to Linux in 2019, and I've been using it regularly ever since. I must admit that distro hopping is fun. I've done my fair share of it in the past. I've tried Ubuntu, Arch, Manjaro, Mabox, and Debian for extended periods, and many more just briefly. This year I spent my August...

Spinning legs 12 Aug, 2026 I found myself getting lost in endurance sports. When I’m climbing a mountain with my bike, or with my skis, everything feels very peaceful. My mind gets lost in thoughts, projects, ideas, and memories. No distractions. That’s why my favourite part of these sports is going uphill. Since...

Mind uncluttered 02 Aug, 2026 Over the past ten years, I've become pretty organized when it comes to managing appointments. So I thought I'd share the simple scheduling setup I use. First things first: I don’t trust my memory. I don't want to use my brain as storage for things I need to remember. I'd rather keep it...

Be happy anyway 25 Jul, 2026 Last year, my wife and I hired a contractor to demolish and rebuild a dilapidated house we had bought. We did the maths and took out a mortgage with a bank to cover the remaining costs. That's how the world works nowadays, I guess. Even then, we chose not to complete the full interiors...

Leave before locked 28 Jun, 2026 A year and a half after switching from Fusion to FreeCAD, I can confidently say I made the right choice. I tried FreeCAD for the first time a long time ago, but it was too rough to get started with. I’m used to commercial CAD software like Inventor, SolidWorks, and Solid Edge. They...

Open, less so 03 Jun, 2026 Over the past week, many Android FOSS apps installed from alternative stores have started displaying an alert saying something like: "Google has announced that, starting in 2026/2027, all apps on certified Android devices will require the developer to submit personal identity details...

Back to it 18 May, 2026 The more days I go without writing, the less likely I am to write in the future. Last summer was rough, and I broke my writing streak. After that, I started managing the construction of my house. One thing led to another, and I stopped publishing notes. I needed to create something so badly...

Homelab February 2026 Things are snowballing here. You know, it always starts the same way. You see a video on youtube, a photo on reddit, start digging, and suddenly you end up with a home server. I don’t know if this is a trend now or if it’s only on me, but it seems that the algorithm has been pushing homelab...

ObiWanStenobit January 2026 Just before the Christmas holidays, I was contacted by Emily from PCBWay. Since she liked the Neopad and the LATE-9 projects, she wanted to sponsor me by producing a batch of PCBs for these macropads for free! Leaving aside the excitement of being contacted by a major manufacturer like...

Sovol SV06 (more) upgrades December 2025 Note: This is the third post about my 3D printing journey. If you are interested, take a look at Initial setup and Essential upgrades. I decided to make a separate post and not update the previous one because this will be a more advanced level of modding. The first post is...

On engineering January 2026 I’m writing this note off the cuff because I just watched the latest Veritasium video, and I’m overexcited. It’s one of those moments where something you already knew clicks suddenly. The video talks about the engineering behind ASML’s EUV lithography machines, one of the most complex...
