Britt Coxon

Hi, I’m Britt Coxon (she/her or they/them). I’m a multidisciplinary visual artist based in North East England, making things for web and print. Things I do include painting illustration, graphic design, websites, papercraft, music, photography, comics and zines. My work has a collaborative and communication focus, often resulting from workshops, consultations with educators or interactions with the public. My work explores communication, mental health, self-empowerment, community and understanding. I love working both digitally and with pen and paper, the most satisfying part of my work is being able to combine analogue and digital in interesting ways to create something unique.

I drew this from a photo of Derwentwater taken by my partner’s sister. Digital drawing using Sketchbook on my tablet. There’s a lovely brush called tattoo inker that I used for the outlines. It feels very nice to draw with. I actually shared this a while ago on socials but have been neglecting my blog. I’m currently...

Do I just keep numbering these? Do I call them something better than links? Findings sounds nicer. So what have I seen this time? Teresa Watts has been sharing her art. I enjoyed Shopping – it’s warm and glows, the light makes these everyday objects feel very special and sentimental. The sketch for this piece is in...

Sunday Zine Club #21’s theme was splash. I decided to gather my pictures of children playing in the rain and use them to tell a little story. I’m still getting used to using a fude style fountain pen but I am enjoying the results. I’ve used brush pens quite a bit but have always applied too much pressure to actually...

Do *you* understand ISO? A very good question, turns out the answer is no. Via Tom MacWright. A Class Apart on Axis, interviews with working class artists. Art By Amber Williams, beautiful collages made using security patterns from the inside of envelopes. And a Flickr collection of said security patterns. It has...

I mentioned in my last post that I’ve been experimenting with different ways of digital drawing, leaning towards a more opaque painting style for colour than I usually would. I’m enjoying the results. My obsession with birds continues. This was painted using Sketchbook on my tablet, with heavy use of my own photo...

I realised I had tabs open on my laptop. My Gripes With The Artist’s way by Andromeda Zines. I’m hardly the first person to point out some of these issues but I wanted to throw my hat into the ring regardless. In a world that pushes self-improvement as a cure for larger societal issues we should be critical of...

This blog post format has no standards. Here are some nice things I’ve been holding onto in the form of open tabs or things added to bookmarks for slightly too long. Blogs get philosophical “TO THE GREATER GLORY OF GOD” by ArtLung. The phrase that titles this post “to the greater glory of god” is something that...

This month’s IndieWeb Carnival is hosted by James, who has chosen the topic Museum memories. I love my local museums, most are part of North East Museums, which are free to enter and have a publicly accessible archive. I spent many childhood hours (free days out for three kids is a big win) between the Hancock...

It’s well past time for an IndieWeb Carnival post. This month, the theme is Intersecting Interests, chosen by Zachary Kai. I have trouble picking apart my interests to know if they are intersecting, or just the same thing in a different hat. A lot of what I like, do and get enjoyment out of comes from a core of...

A very important questionnaire via Zachary Kai. This page is my tribute to the most reliable and versatile meal: sandwiches! A questionnaire exploring preferences and the joy of stuff between bread. Why don’t you answer it? A Sandwich Questionnaire How Many Sandwiches Do You Eat Per Week? At least five. When Do You...

We did it, the Paper Jam Comics Collective made another comic! In celebration of the collective turning 18 in 2025 we decided to do an anthology all about growing up. Imagine the many ways that title was interpreted… well you don’t have to. You can come and buy the comic from us. Comic Launch Party! Saturday 14th...

Zachary Kai recently asked if I’d like to be on a list of people willing to trade blog post titles. Of course I said yes, I really enjoyed our trade last year and would love to do more. Soon after James got in touch to offer a trade. I asked him if there was a piece of art he would like to see in person. James asked...
