Here are the non-bird pics from the zoo. Clearly mammals are the second focus for me after birds. I think I like how expressive they can be. Plus it’s easy to anthropomorphism an ape taking a nap or bears playing with a toy or a panda passed out. Size and relation to common pets also help make them relatable. But...
Over the Labor Day holiday I made use of my zoo membership and went to the downtown San Diego Zoo. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the zoo by myself so I was kinda nice being able to spend my time wherever I wanted. Naturally I spent more time in the aviaries than anywhere else. So I’ve compiled my favorite bird...
Random thought of the day: Housecats are so much more consistent in size than dogs. I’m not saying there aren’t big chunky cats but they aren’t anything like Chihuahua vs Great Danes. Apparently dogs just were needed for a lot more jobs than cats. Cats were mainly kept for mice so they weren’t selectively bred the...
Bookmarked “Bight (geography) - Wikipedia” TIL “bight” is another term for an open bay. Such as the Southern California Bight. Thanks to Joe and James for sending me down this rabbit hole. Bonus geography vocab “tombolo” refers to a type of isthmus where a spit connects to a tied island.
Bookmarked “Connecticut's Missing NYC”: Connecticut is, perhaps rightfully, slept on. But its geography is super important to the American northeast, Massachusetts, and NYC #connecticut #hartford #... Today I Learned why the CT river doesn’t have a major port city at its mouth. I usually thought of the lack of...
🎵 Listening to Live in Washington Sq Park by New Jazz Underground. I really liked listening to this set by this jazz trio. There was something really beautiful about the organic, candid cinematography. And all three musicians were sharp.
Yesterday I managed to delay buying new tech hardware I didn’t need (eink devices). Yay self control. Probably good considering I have a million other projects to work on. I haven’t fully rejected the idea yet though…
Today is BlogDay, a celebration of blogging and also the end to Blaugust, a challenge to write 31 posts in the month of August. I did not participate in Blaugust myself, but I have enjoyed reading people’s posts. In particular Thomas Vander Wal’s posts were a fun display of both technical and literary skill. But I...
Sorry to those I sent multiple webmentions to. But in related news, my webmention sender now (theoretically) knows how to tell how many new posts there were since the last build. Will hopefully publish stable versions of the libraries soon.
I’m really satisfied to have fixed a couple IndieWeb libraries and website config issues. Too bad my ideas are far ahead of my ability to get things accomplished…
Thanks to some work by Jacob an 8 year bug with posting to wordpress from Omnibear should now be fixed! Also posted to: news.indieweb.org
I braved the heat and went and watched the Supergirl Surf Pro Competition again over the weekend. There was some really impressive surfing on both sides of the pier. I’m partial to the flow of the longboarding but of course the short board moves are also impressive. This is a big event that qualifies for the World...
