I am a philosopher living in the mountains of Cyprus at a house I built myself which I affectionately call “the hut.” I spend my free time programming on GNU Emacs, writing essays on a wide range of life issues, and doing infrastructure work around my house. My background is diverse and reflects my intellectual curiosity as well as consistently high work ethic.

In this video I talk with Julien Malka who is a PhD student on supply chain security. UPDATE 2025-09-16 09:17 +0300: There now is a dedicated “selfies” section on my website: https://protesilaos.com/selfies. In this video I talk to port19 about repetitive strain injury related to computer usage. I am introduced to the experience port19 went through, with pain in the hands and fingers. I ask about the computing setup that first contributed to the problem and learn how keyboard-driven it was. port19 covers the progression...
This is an excerpt from my journal. It is past midnight now. I got home from a long walk in the mountains. I do hike every evening or night with my dogs. When there is a full moon I also go for another round afterwards to enjoy the experience. There is something uncommon about walking under the moonlight. You can...
In this video, I talk to Greg about a number of topics ranging from the technical work one does in Emacs to outdoors activities in Pennsylvania. Our discussion starts with the topic of Emacs, where I learn that Greg has been working professionally with software for twenty years. In Greg’s experience, one of the...
This package lets you preview a font inside of Emacs. It does so in three ways: Prompt for a font on the system and display it in a buffer. List all known fonts in a buffer, with a short preview for each. Provide a major mode to preview a font whose file is among the installed ones. Sources: Package name (GNU ELPA):...
