This is my show. It’s a blog as hupomnemata. Michael Foucault defined hupomnemata as a personal notebook similar to a spiritual journal but with a different goal. He did not want “to pursue the unspeakable, nor to reveal the hidden, nor to say the unsaid [like a spiritual journal does], but on the contrary to capture the already said, to collect what one has managed to hear or read, and for a purpose that is nothing less than the shaping of the self.”

The Strange Pattern in Joyce’s Day On June 16, 1904, three people share the same spaces in Dublin, but they live in completely different worlds. Stephen Dedalus pays twelve pounds to rent the Martello Tower from the British state. But Buck Mulligan has taken over—making breakfast, swimming, entertaining the English...
You’ve probably asked an AI to help you with a college essay. Maybe you said something like, “Write about gun control from the perspective of an average American family.” Or maybe you were prepping for Model UN and asked it to argue like “an ordinary citizen of Brazil.” You got output. It sounded convincing. You...
The auditor’s quarters faced the storm wall. Not by choice—the Crown assigned rooms by clearance level, and hers put her on the eastern rim where the glass was thickest and the view was all gray turbulence. She’d stopped opening the blinds after the second week. The constant motion made her nauseous, and there was...
The Sam Vimes theory of socioeconomic unfairness, often called simply the boots theory, is an economic theory that people in poverty have to buy cheap and subpar products that need to be replaced repeatedly, proving more expensive in the long run than more expensive items. —”Boots theory.” Wikipedia, last modified...
The yellow bar appeared in the corner of my wall-screen three days before midnight. Just a thin line at first, easy to ignore while I was trimming the hydroponic lettuce in Unit 47-C, my fingers slick with nutrient solution, the chemical tang of it sharp under my nails. But by evening it had numbers: red digits...
“The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”-Princess Leia in Star Wars Leia wasn’t making a political prediction—she was stating a physical law. The Grip as Mandate Tarkin’s grip is pure mandatrophy. The Death Star represents the ultimate centralization fantasy:...
When omission becomes disinformation: (1) available at publication time, (2) changes analytical meaning of reported facts, (3) outlet’s authority means most readers stop there. On February 13, 2026, the New York Times published its lead story on the Bangladesh election. The headline: “Bangladeshis Vote in Droves for...
What kind of political movement promises liberation from fiscal dependency by doubling down on the very structure that created the dependency? The Alberta Prosperity Project’s push for a sovereignty referendum—signature collection opened January 3, 2026, with 177,732 needed by May 2—offers a case study in a...
The nurse takes my typewriter at the front desk. She slides it into a cubby with my name on a card, the letters pressed so hard the paper dimples. My notebooks go in after it. Then my pens. She does this with a smile that doesn’t reach past her bottom lip, and I watch her wrist flex as she pushes the cubby shut. The...
What this is: A three-part tool to help you understand what’s actually happening in your relationships—not what you hope is happening, not what you’re told is happening, but what the repeated patterns reveal. Who this is for: Anyone who feels exhausted, confused, or stuck in a relationship (romantic, family,...
