Jeff MacKinnon's Homepage

I, Jeff MacKinnon, have many interests and wear many hats. I'm a generalist at a lot of things and an expert at a few. I focus a lot of my time on power systems, reducing carbon emissions, electrifying everything, cooking, taking pictures and keeping the internet open and free.

The Emu Café Social

The Emu Café Social is a social-publishing site powered by WordPress. Members will be able to use the site to post about what interests them and discuss their external projects. While the site is conducive to short-to-medium-length posts, it also accommodates longer-form writing. By advertising feeds and user profiles, it will be easy for visitors to follow individual writers or to follow the project as a whole. In general, members of the site can and will post about subjects of interest to them.

Kagu's Corner

For a few years, but more seriously starting around 2023, I have been interested in internet privacy, free and open source software (FOSS), and self hosting. I started exploring this interest by starting to build a home server and diving down that rabbit hole. This interest led me to stumble upon some videos about the IndieWeb and motivated me to start this website. My goal is to generally carve my own space out here on the internet.

notes art favicon

notes art

Since late 2021, I’ve done daily drawings in my iPhone’s Notes app, sharing them to social media under the hashtag #notesArt. In many ways, my #notesArt work is a project uniquely shaped to the contours of my life: a product of the iPhone Era’s pervasive convenience, extended to drawing. I live in an apartment and work a regular job, so it’s harder for me to make the time and space required by traditional artistic media. Like most people my age, my phone is always with me; over time, it’s worked its way into every corner of my life. I do everything else on my phone, so it was inevitable that at some point, I’d start drawing on it.
